Happy Monday (for real!)

So, yet again, I have been neglecting the poor blog. But I promise that it is for good reason. Last week I was out of town for work (and very, very busy), so there was no time for any life musings or updates about my general fabulousity (ha!). And then early Friday morning--as in midnight--I was stricken with the plague. Still not sure what was wrong, but it was neither fun nor pleasant. Thank goodness for my coworkers who drove me back home and put up with my grossness for the ride back. Once I made it into my bed around 2:30 pm, I did not get back out until around 8:30 the next morning. Luckily, I'm back to normal now :)

So, there's not much to update on as of late. I have not made any fabulous purchases, or crafted anything, or reorganized my house at all. Although, I started on a closet overall/shoe organization effort last night. Maybe if it turns out really well I'll post pics when I'm done. There's nothing like a well-organized closet to brighten up a day. There are a few things on my current wish-list, which include a very cute mint green cardigan from J. Crew,

tickets to Avenue Q for John's birthday, and something else to get him as a gift. Still unsure about that one...feel free to leave comments if you know any guy friendly gifts! I've also been wanting to go back to the wonderful consignment/thrift shops in Chamblee that I posted about a few months back. There might be some treasure waiting to be found. And lastly, I planted a very cute flower pot of petunias (which I got for free!) about a week ago, and I need to pretty up the plain clay put that I bought. Time to bust out the sorority craft supplies, I guess.

One more current goal (which is always a current goal)--be healthier. I've actually gotten a jump start on this because I didn't eat for, oh, about 2.5 days with the sickness. So I'm automatically eating less now, and actually have a reall interest in seriously controlling my portion sizes, and buying healthier, fresh groceries. A trip to Trader Joe's is in order. I even went for a nice walk outside in Piedmont Park today at lunch. Not exactly a workout, but definitely better than just sitting at my desk. I want to start doing that much more often. Any little bit helps!

Uneventful

I'm having a pretty nice boring day at home. Yesterday I had a pretty nice boring afternoon at home too, both of which were much needed after my very eventful weekend! Yesterday I did nothing but sit on my couch and watch awesomely bad movies on tv and I'm not ashamed to admit it:) Today I'm working from home (all week!) and studying for an exam I have to take for my job. It was so nice to sleep in a little, go to the gym and lay around reading over notes all day. Definitely feels like college again, except this time I'm getting paid to study. I like this version better.

I have no big plans for the entire week. My only goals are to get in some solid study time for a few hours every day, eat more healthily (although I'm totally craving Papa John's..I might have to splurge tonight) and go to the gym every day. Its so funny--after eating tons of fruit and turkey slices today and hitting the treadmill and weights this morning, I already feel inspired for my Spring healthier lifestyle goals. No major diet..I just want to tone up a little for my beach trip and have more energy from eating better foods. Shouldn't be too hard at all. AND I can't wait to go to the grocery store to get some apple cider vinegar to try as a cleanser for my face! K, if you used it already, let me know! I also need to get some Neosporin for my frisbee golf injury and my stupid elbow wound from slipping down the stairs on Saturday (curses to my new Jack Rogers sandals...I will never wear them on hardwood stairs again!). Sigh. The clumsiness was bound to return at some point.

Happy Monday!

I'm tired of 25 degrees.

Busy day at work, but at least its my Friday! I can't wait for yoga this afternoon, then making some dinner and watching a movie, and not having to get up in the morning! The detox is still going, just not at night. Today I brought my sliced pears with honey for dipping for breakfast and they were delicious. Plus, last night for dessert I had apples dipped in maple syrup. So good, and detox-legal! Tomorrow starts my fitness routine back up. I fell off the wagon for the last half of January, but starting in the morning, I'll be back on the treadmill. Also, I think there really is something to all this fruit and veggies. I actually do feel better and more energized. I woke up before my alarm this morning and actually got out of bed--instead of laying there until the last minute like normal! This is a good thing. If only it hadn't been 20 degrees when I left my apartment. That is not fun.

The weekend is shaping up well too. I have dinner plans Friday, maybe movie plans for Saturday, AND I'm most likely going out for drinks with the girl my cousin connected me with, who lives right across the street from me. She's a senior in college right now, and has lots of friends around town that she can introduce me to. I'm excited:)

And as for the secret part of my life that only K knows about (I refuse to blog about it haha), its surprisingly fun and I feel kind of giddy about it. I'm crazy, I know.

Et cetera

Ahh, finally back to my desk after a solid morning of meetings. Very interesting, but very, very long. Especially when all I had to look forward to at lunch was a big salad. Tear for me. The detox is going great during the day time. I have made it through the past 4 days breakfast and lunch with no slip-ups! But, then by dinner time I am ravenous and the last thing I want to eat is more veggies. Last night it was cheese and crackers and more Moravian cookies. YUM. I'm still proud of me though:)

Nothing new to report. Today is a good day, but a little blah. Tomorrow I have yoga to look forward to, plus it will be my personal Friday yay! On my day off, I've definitely decided to have a mall day and then I'm going out to dinner with a big group of people. Should be really fun. I'm thinking of calling the girls I met last weekend to go see He's Just Not That Into You on Saturday. Oh, the joys of actually having people I can call!

I want to find a couple of good recipes for this weekend. I'm thinking of making something in my crockpot on Sunday, plus I've really been in the mood to bake a cake lately. Maybe its time to pull out my new Best of the Food Network cookbook--even though I know most everything is too complicated for me. We'll see!

I suck at detoxing

I know this diet is good for me, but it is so hard to keep on track. I do great at breakfast and lunch (all fruits and vegetables and salad), but then last night I forced myself to have the "vegetable broth" and it was horrible. So, to make up for the fact that it was so bad, I ate a bunch of Moravian sugar cookies (my absolute favorite & my special treat from Christmas!). Oh well, any day when I eat that much good-for-me stuff is a good day.

This week is a good one so far. I'm doing some really interesting stuff at work and I'm definitely enjoying it. Not only am I lucky to be employed (in general), but I am so lucky to have a job I really like. Plus, its a only a 4 day week for me--yay flex time! I've decided that Friday is going to be a shopping-palooza. Ok, I've probably been spending more money than I need to lately, but its all been on wonderful things like traveling to New Orleans and back home, and I haven't really bought any clothes in a the last few weeks. I think I'm well overdue for a mall day by myself. And, of course, there are some gorgeous boots I found online that I have been trying to (unsuccessfully) talk myself out of. I'm finally going to give in on Friday and go search for them. I also figure, the less time I spend in my apartment alone, the less cookies I will eat.

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Groundhog Day

I've got my fingers crossed that the groundhog will tell us that we don't have a long winter left ahead of us! I can't remember if that means he'll see his shadow or he won't? Whatever..I'm pretty sure this groundhog thing doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Oh well! I'm just ready for the cold to be over and spring to arrive. Seriously. Yesterday was a gorgeous, sunny 68 degree day in Atlanta, and I want that to be an every day occurance. I got to sit out on my deck and actually feel a little sun on my very, very white skin. It was nice.

I started my detox diet yesterday, but when 4 o'clock rolled around I was bad and had some peanut butter crackers. Whatev. Any day when I eat thaat many fruits and vegetables is a good day. My goal for this week is not to keep perfectly on track, but just to feel healthier by the end. I know this will be the case, even if I do slip up and eat the occasional meat, etc.

I had forgotten how nice it feels to go to church on Sunday, too. Yesterday I went to a new church here in Atlanta with one of my new friends! It was really nice to get out on a Sunday, and especially since I didn't have to go alone. I enjoyed myself, and I'm hoping we'll make this a weekly thing.

In other news: tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of "the day the music died". It is a story that always always interested me--probably because I've been a "Behind the Music" junkie since I was 12, and I love hearing about the stories of old school Rock and Roll of the 50s. I think its time to make another trek up to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland!

Happy Hour

Last night I forced myself out of the house to a WFU alumni happy hour at a bar right around the corner from my office. As I walked to the train, I gave myelf a pep talk about surviving the awkwardness. But, alas, there was no awkwardness! As soon as I walked in, I saw someone I recognized talking with a bunch of girls. It turns out she was in my sorority at Wake--a senior when I was a freshman. She has recently moved to Atlanta after graduating from law school. I think I actually have a new friend! Not only her, but her roommate/friend from Wake and law school goes to the church I had already decided to go try out this weekend. So, now I may have 2 brand new friends AND I hopefully won't have to go to church tomorrow by myself. Last night was a good night.

This only reinforces what I guessed about stepping out of my comfort zone. I took one chance going to a party by myself, and it worked out. Not only this, but I have dinner plans with a whole different group of people next Friday night. And I have a new contact--friend of a friend--who lives literally right across the street from me. Things are looking up. with just a little bit of effort from myself.

Happy weekend! Today i'll run errands, perhaps hit the mall for some fabulous boots I found online at Nordstrom, and make the trek to Marietta for Bojangles and cheap Walmart groceries. Detox starts tomorrow, so I've go to get mentally prepared!

Unproductive

I'm in a food coma after my delicious lunch today: portabello mushroom, basil and mozzarella cheese panini. Yum. I've decided that I'm going to join one of my co-workers to do a serious detox diet next week. Fresh fruits, veggies and vegetable broth for a week. Not sure if I can do it, but I'm definitely going to try! To do list for this weekend: grocery store to buy more fruits and veggies than one person should eat in a week.

I'm trying to think of something fun to do this weekend. I'll definitely be at happy hour tomorrow night, but I need something fun for Saturday. Maybe a visit to the art museum or a serious mall trip. I still haven't been to one of the fabulous malls down the street from me yet (and I've only been to the other one once), so it might be a good weekend for some mall quality time. I've been feeling really blah about my wardrobe this week too, so a new outfit might be a nice pick me up. Not that I need to be spending money, but hopefully I can catch some ridiculously good sales.
