Summer-o-fun

Two weeks from today Kristin will be here in Atlanta--yay! And Sarina will be here just a couple of days after that! I'm so lucky to have friends who can come visit me...if only they lived here full time. I also realized today that in just over a month I'll be in Washinton D.C. for two whole weeks for work purposes, but also there over the weekends, and I'll get to have a reunion with some of the very best people in the whole world. I miss my friends from Wake so desperately sometimes...it will be better than wonderful to finally see some of them again.

There really is so, so much to look forward to. Seeing friends, traveling the country, visiting home. All so great. Plus, hanging out with my friends here in the (short) meantimes that I'll actually be in town. My goal for the summer is to actually go to a Braves game. I feel like I'm not really a true Atlantan until I do (and we all know that I'll be more interested in the hotdogs and beverages than actual baseball, of course:). I'm also planning on taking as much advantage of my pools (and gym...ick) as I can this summer. Might as well enjoy, on the few occasions when I actually have nothing to do in the evenings.

Other things I'm excited about:
-out to lunch today at a new Asian place, Silk, in Midtown
-my ugly grandma chair is being recovered this week in NC! I can't wait to see the finished product...my living room looks so naked without it.
-more cooking tonight on my GF grill
-pool time
-fireworks in WF on Friday night with mom and maybe Erin!
-finally seeing my beloved Matthew and Emily this weekend at home..its been far too long
-reading new books
-overhauling my closet space in my apt...its amazing how out-of-control my pantry, linen closets, etc have gotten in the past 7ish months

On celebrities, etc

Good morning, my dears. I feel like there is so much to comment on since my last entry on Thursday. The world has changed so much in just a few short days. Farrah died. Michael Jackson died. Then Billy Mays, the OxiClean pitchman died yesterday...oh, the humanity!

Of course Farrah's death was sadly not a shock to anyone. But it is still so tragic that she lost her battle with cancer after such a hard-fought fight. Then, Michael Jackson--now that was a shock! I think it'll probably be one of those moments where I never forget where I was when I found out (which just happened to be by text message from Emily while waiting for the MARTA to take me to free concert night at the High Museum with my mom...I can attest that technology is an amazing thing, as everyone on the train seemed to find out the news simultaneously (by text, blackberry, etc) if that's even possible. Obviously there is a lot that can be said about MJ, good and bad, but I do believe that no one can refute what a huge star he was. The true King of Pop, for better or worse. I mean, there aren't many celebrities that everyone in the world knows. There wasn't a single person on that train Thursday night who didn't know Michael Jackson or his music, and that's saying alot. Lastly, poor Billy Mays the screaming pitchman. I just watched his show Pitchmen a few weeks ago, and I'm not ashamed to say that Billy could probably convince me to buy most anything. Sad days, they will all be missed!

As for me, I had a great weekend at home. As much as I love Atlanta (although its been more of a love-hate relationship lately), there's no place like North Carolina. Atlanta just can't replace the trees, the streets I've know all my life and running into long lost friends all over town. I got to see Be, Erin and Sara, three of the very best people I know in this world. Spending time with them and my family brought me back to life a little bit, as they always do:) I was even ambitious enough to clean out my closet at my parent's house, and I got my Bojangles fix. Excellent weekend all around! And the best part? I get to turn around and do it all over again this weekend! I never ever get to be in Raleigh twice in a row..I'm thrilled! Although I do hate this fact that I've abandoned my friends here for a little while. Maybe I need to strike up a trivia night this week.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, despite all the devastating celeb news. And extra congrats to Kristin for moving out of NYC this weekend--long awaited freedom! I can't believe she comes to visit in 2 short weeks hooray!

Stupid Governors

cartoon via ajc.om

How do these politicians honestly expect to get away with this crap? At least it provides fodder for funny cartoons for me:)

Happy Friday-ish!

I'm so excited its the last day of the work-week for me. Tonight mom and I are going to the High Museum for some live jazz and we're going to make dinner--fresh scallops from Publix. Delicious! Last night we went out for Mexican food (I discovered a new place--new to me--on Ponce in the Highlands called El Azteca...yum) and lounged around on noodles in the pool for about an hour. Lovely. Its so nice to have her here! Since she had no plans for today, she's going to pick us up some cupcakes from this bakery called Matty Cakes right by my apartment. Supposedly the best red velvet in Atlanta. I'll be the judge of that tonight:)

Otherwise life is trudging along as usual. I'm trying to enjoy my time in the office during these two weeks, because I know I'll be gone so much for the rest of the summer. But honestly, its the middle of summertime and I'm seriously lacking in motivation. I'm getting all of my assignments done, but I have no motivation to go above and beyond to do things that aren't due for a while. Even though its the perfect time to do them. Sigh. I think procrastination may have finally caught up with me, and my brain is crying out for a summer vacay. Oh, to be in school again:) Scratch that--I will be for two weeks at the beginning of August in D.C. Yay!

This weekend at home I'm looking forward to: Friday night with Erin on Glenwood South (we both need a night out, let's be honest), lunch with Sara, dinner with the fam, and hopefully seeing Be and Emily, whom I have not seen in longer than I'd like to remember. So much to look forward to!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Teehee

Cartoon from msn.com
No comment on J&K+8 today, but I just had to share that:)
I'm pretty excited because my Mom is coming back down to Atlanta this afternoon! She'll be here for the next couple of days, and then we'll drive back to N.C. together on Friday morning. I'm looking forward to her being here, because I rarely have anyone to hang out with during the week. As much as I like my alone time, it'll be fun to have her here to go to Trader Joe's with me and to listen to jazz music at the High Museum tomorrow night! I also can't wait to go home this weekend and see some of my best friends. All that's standing in the way is a couple of busy days at work--I think I can handle it!
Hope you all have a happy hump day & enjoy the extra hot weather if you're anywhere near Atlanta!

Celeb news all around

Since there is rarely anything exciting to report on in my life (except for the fact that I cooked last night and went to the pool), today's blog will be devoted to a few nutty things celebs have been doing lately, and of course, my thoughts on last night's Jon and Kate episode (b/c you know I have pretty strong opinions about those two).

1. Jessica Simpson is getting a new reality show. Does she not remember that her first reality show destroyed both her marriage and her career? Hmm, maybe not. Although it seems this new show isn't so much about her personal life as her quest to find out what people find beautiful. Right. I would be very skeptical, but I do love a good VH1 show...maybe its got potential?

2. Poor, poor Chris Brown. Turns out he's getting 5 years probation and some community service for beating Rihanna back in the winter. And, while Rihanna was in court yesterday, she didn't actually make any statement. I feel a little let down, but am happy for her that all this drama is over for now.

3. Finally, Jon and Kate. Oh, Jon and Kate. As the entire world probably knows at this point, they announced their separation on a special hour long episode last night, and Kate filed for divorce in Pennsylvannia yesterday. I feel sad, releived and totally unsurprised by this. The problems they have been having in their marriage are totally obvious. In the past, I've been more inclined to blame Kate, but last night Jon seemed to be more of the bad guy. Unwilling to talk or try to work anything out. He had both his ears pierced for Lord's sake! What a loser! Anyway, I'm not sure that one party is more at fault than another. Its just a sad situation for the two of them (or ten of them, I suppose). I just wish they would get their acts together and get off of the television...keeping the show going should be their very last priority at this point.

And, Kate, do something about that hair honey!

As of late.

I had a lovely visit from my mom and Granny this weekend. We did very girly things, such as outlet mall shopping, visiting the High museum of art for the new Monet exhibit (disappointing...I'm pretty sure they could've gotten more than four freaking paintings to do an entire exhibit), and eating. I had a wonderful time and it was really nice to have company in my apartment for an extended period of time! I'm so used to hanging out there by myself, it was nice to have someone to cook with and talk to and go to the pool with for 3 straight days!

It was weird not to be with my dad on Father's Day for the first time ever. We had a nice chat on the phone, but nothing can really replace actually spending time with family. I love and miss all the mother's and father's days growing up when my whole family would come over and my dad would grill delicious steaks for us and my mom would make me wash all the dainty glass bowls in the house for a pretty salad bar on the kitchen counter. Ahh, the memories:) Regardless, I am happy to get to see my dad this weekend when I will be in NC!

A few summer resolutions I have made as of late:

1. Cook often, and make a variety of things. I've decided that I'm never going to learn or get into the habit of cooking if I don't force myself to do it now. I'm even thinking of taking a week at the end of the summer and forcing myself to make a different meal 7 nights in a row. Think I can handle it?

2. Go to the pool after work. I have two pools in my apartment complex, and I need to use them while I've got them. I went the past 3 nights with Mom and it was great. I didn't realize how relaxing it was until I went 3 nights in Florida last week by myself, and then again all weekend. It does the body and mind a lot of good.

3. No turning down invitations. Parties, meals, just hanging out and playing games. Doesn't matter. If my lovely friends here invite me and I'm (shockingly) in town, I will go. Hanging out and meeting new people is excellent fun.

4. Read read read. I bought some new books last week, and we all know already how much I love the public library. I'm going to take myself back to the olden days of summer reading lists in the next couple months, except this time its going to be exactly what I want to read. Suggestions are welcome! (And thanks to Kristin for making me buy Why Men Love Bitches. Highly informative, fabulous and pertinent. I can't wait to finish it...every girl needs to read it. Period.)

New Music

Watch this. Not a huge Taylor Swift fan, but I saw this video on VH1 this morning and its pretty awesome. Also, this is my new favorite song. Listened to it 4 times in a row on the plane this morning!.

There's nothing like a 9 carat diamond...

to bring loads of happiness into my life. Sigh.

Yesterday we finished up work early and had enough free time to drive up to West Palm Beach, aka heaven on earth, and stroll around. The beach was stunningly beautiful. Just gorgeous. White sand, clear turquoise water. So gorgeous that I didn't even care that I got sunburned in approx 45 total minutes of being outside. That is paradise. We also walked down the beautiful and ridiculously luxurious Worth Ave (think: Rodeo Drive of the east). Obviously couldn't afford to buy much of anything, but a (very, very attractive) young man/jewelry salesman came to my rescue, and offered me a crystal glass of cold water and the chance to, oh ya know, just try on a few giagantic diamonds just for fun. Again I say, heaven on earth. And note to future husband, wherever you may be out there: now that I've experienced that kind of beauty on my finger, I don't think I can go back. A 7-9 carat Asscher cut engagement ring would be great, thanks:)

So yesterday was the first day of what I have decided is going to be the best summer ever. Cliche, I know, but I don't care. I've been too caught up in life lately..too bummed out about various things, and that's not acceptable anymore. Happiness is a conscious decision & effort, and I plan to make myself the happiest I've ever been this summer. After all, no one can make me happy more than myself. I have a wonderful life, wonderful friends, and I'm so lucky. I just need to let myself enjoy life every once in a while. No more worrying/stressing/feeling anxious about whatever may (or may not) be going on in my life at the moment. I plan to spend this summer meeting new people, doing awesome things with friends, visiting NC and traveling a ton for work. And I'm going to have a great time while I do it. I'm thrilled for the possibilities, and I just hope that I can keep up my mood and enthusiasm. I know I will, because I won't let myself feel any other way! Its the perfect time for this refocus to happen too...so much is possible, I can't even comprehend!

So, the summer kicked off with some huge diamond rings...sounds about right, doesn't it? Next up, a visit from my mom and granny this weekend, filled with shopping and fun in general. I can't wait to see them. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

And one last side note: Jess is having a boy eeek! So unbelievable. Congratulations!

Happy times!

So many good things to report:

-new gold shoes from Marshall's
-excellent chat with best friend on the phone..I feel so empowered!
-a new pink can opener
-pool and hot tub time
-late night snack of leftover beignets in bed
-Carolina Ale House in Boynton Beach!
-lots of new trashy summer reading & educational life books
-gorgeous weather
-mom and granny visiting this weekend for a shopping extravaganza
-maybe getting home earlier on Friday
-two weekends in NC in a row!
-K and Sarina visit in a month!

Lots of great, happy things!

In other maybe not so good news: Obama's plan to reorganize the Fed and banking oversight in general. Please, oh please, don't let this mean I need to go ahead and find a new career. I just found the one I like! I really want to know what Ben B. is going to say about this, seeing as how he is the only man in Washington who I trust at this point.

I want to stay here for a month.

Florida is fabulous. Nothing like palm trees and a new place in general to perk up a person's mood! I'm having a really good time here...excellent food, great coworkers and a pretty sweet hotel suite all to myself. Yes, please.

Speaking of good food, I had lunch yesterday at the Village Tavern--THE Village Tavern of Winston-Salem fame!! I had the Deacon Club sandwich, which of course isn't called "Deacon" here, but it was insanely delicious and nostalgic anyway. Nothing like the VT to take me straight back to college:) And on that note: this summer is going to be a summer of fabulous reunions with all the best people in the world from Wake. I am unbelievably excited and cannot wait for July and August to roll around so I can see them!!

Nothing much else to report on. I'm really hoping for some beach/pool time today after work! I can't leave Florida without some kind of tan/burn, right?

Greetings from sunny FLA

Happy Monday, dear friends. I am excited to be blogging from lovely Boynton Beach/Boca Raton, Florida. Every inch of land is covered in palm trees and beachy looking buildings...its beautiful, and freaking hot. I'm talking the kind of hot where I felt like I was melting the moment I set foot outside. At 10 AM. Ick. But I still love it and am thrilled for a change of scenery for the week. And I have a visit from Mom and Granny to look forward to on Friday when I get back to ATL. Beyond happy.

So as you most likely know/can gather from my last few blog posts, its been a rough few days since last Thursday. Some life changes, albeit good and necessary ones, but changes none-the-less and rarely is change easy. A and I have decided to take breather for the summer to take time out for ourselves. This is a really good thing for both of us, but obviously not too fun to think about. He is one of my best friends here, and I'll certainly miss seeing him on a regular basis, but my head and my heart are sure that our decision is the right one, and that makes me happy. We decided to feel things out again in a month or two, and see if we'd like to be together again, so we shall see what happens:)

Thanks again to all my wonderful, amazing friends who I called on this weekend--by phone or in person. You are all so special and helpful, and I am grateful to have you. You have made my life easier just by knowing you are there and you'll put up with me acting crazy every once in a while! I am so happy to know that I have made such good friends here, too. Its hard going through something, knowing none of your best friends are anywhere remotely close by. But, when I needed my friends here, they allll came out to help me. So wonderful.

I'm sure there will be more periods of craziness than moments of clarity in the near future--there's lots and lots going on, work, travel, etc--so I appreciate all the support in advance:) And I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

Feeling better

Thanks to good friends, peach milkshakes, new shoes and 8 solid hour of sleep. Lovely. I'm having a nice weekend so far. Had dinner and spent the night in Marietta last night. Did some shoe shopping and sitting by the pool earlier. Tonight I'm hanging out with Claire and Hailey dog. Tomorrow, lunch with Sophia at Cheesecake Factory and shopping at Lenox, then dinner & some chatting with A. Sunday...one word: massage.

Ugh

So not a good day. Lack of sleep. Emotions. None of that is good...especially in combination. I don't want to go into it, but I'm unhappy and it's a miserable feeling. Send a few good vibes my way today...it would be appreciated, friends:)

Let's go have burgers at the Max, k?

This is just about the very best thing I have seen in a long time. Those of you who know me well know that I own seasons one through four on dvd, and I'm not ashamed to admit it!

Bran muffin--check
Giant cup of ice water--check
Plenty of work to keep me busy--check

Not a bad way to start Tuesday. Last night I lost all motivation I had for going to the gym, so instead I sat by the pool, talked to Erin on the phone and read God Save the Sweet Potato Queens (excellent follow up to the Sweet Potato Queen's Book of Love...they are my heros and I aspire to be like them one day). I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and continued my evening of relaxation by watching Greek and a little Jon and Kate and eating ice cream for dinner, and then I went to bed. I'm actually kind of hoping tonight will be exactly the same: relaxing, boring (in a good way) and stress free. I definitely should take advantage of the pool more often, but I need to invest in some mosquito repellent first! Maybe tonight I'll finally force myself to go to Target or the grocery store. And then I hopefully (finally) get to see Andrew tomorrow night! Yay!

Hope everyone is having a great day so far!

This is where I'd rather be.

London. The absolute best city in the world. The only place I would considering moving no no notice, no friends, no plan. For some reason I'm really reminiscing about my last trip to the fair city..just over a year ago. Sigh...to be there now.

Excellent Advice

Read this little tidbit from the Glamour Blog Singleish. Kristin and I talk all the time about wishing we had more confidence to go to parties or restaurants alone. I always think "If only I had one other person, I'd feel fine...", but alas, its usually just me. AND I had to remember the two times since I moved here that I did make that leap: the first time I went to dinner with my monthly out-to-eat club (I made a whole new group of friends and had my dinner bought for me by a cute boy) and the WFU happy hour (I reconnected with a sorority sister from Wake). See, it actually worked out! No more being scared or self conscious!

Happy weekend!

I hope all of my blogfriends out there are having an excellent Saturday. I just had a very successful morning of shopping, when I purchased a new fragrance & some cute new tops at Anthropologie on sale! Hooray! Now I'm just relaxing the afternoon away before the epic "cookoutpalooza" I'm attending tonight. Should be fun!

And now I'm currently enjoying a Chik Fil A peach milkshake--tastes like summer!

Scrunchies!

Hahaha this is awesome.
______________________________________________

Not a lot happening at the moment to update on. Except for the fact that I got accidentally drunk with my coworkers off of two strawberry margaritas at Chili's last night. Don't even know how it happened, but it was pretty awesome after this semi-stressful work week:) Then I passed out around 8:30 and didn't wake up til this morning. Nice.

Last day at the bank, woo! We may or may not be eating at the same cute little place for lunch for the 3rd day in a row. That's fine with me...I still haven't gotten my fix of "crawfish burger", whatever that is. Can't wait to fly home tomorrow afternoon and have a weekend-o-fun! On the menu: hopefully hanging with Claire tomorrow night and seeing her new house/potentially my new house if we decide to become roomies eventually--yay! Also, the cookoutpalooza my friend Sarah has been planning for months, and hopefully seeing Andrew on Sunday. Hooray! I'm also feeling like a little shopping is necessary. I might even get a haircut and do an at-home glaze to shine it up a little bit. I'll be a new woman!

Things I like about the Bayou

1. The food. I had a fried oyster po'boy yesterday for lunch, and a catfish one today. The seafood is fresh because we're near the coast, and everything is delicious.

2. The accent. It almost sounds foreign. Much more pronounced than the typical "Nawlins" drawl. These people live in the heart of Louisiana, and they sound like it too.

3. I'm mere miles from the famous Avery Island--the home of Tabasco sauce! Next time you see a bottle, look at the label. It came from this wonderful, tiny little place!

Disney Princesses!

This is awesome. I've always been an Ariel and Belle girl myself.

T for Tuesday

Not much new to report on, my dears. Lots of work to be done this week in Louisiana, which is good, because its nice to be busy and not totally bored while offsite. I had a fairly boring evening last night. Went to dinner with my coworkers (Ruby Tuesday for the second night in a row!), chatted with the parents and with K for a while and passed out for the night. Its amazing what a one hour time difference makes. Tonight we're hoping to find a mall in the next town over for a little shopping adventure.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I missed both new episodes of Jon and Kate Plus 8 last night! I'm sure I'll be able to catch up when they replay the episodes every single night, but for now I missed out on my dose of drama for the night! Oh, well. Hope you all are having a great day. It's ridiculously hot and humid on the Bayou (ok, I don't really even know if I'm on the Bayou, but its fun to say), but thank goodness for air conditioning!

Greetings from Cajun Country

Hello from Louisiana! I'm having a lovely Central Time afternoon. I was ravenous by lunch time (being an hour behind), so I just scarfed down a large Mexican meal with my cokworkers, and am ready for a nap. Travel work days are always hard, because my brain doesn't get into thinking mode very easily after spending the entire morning in the car or on a plane. Especially since I was just on a plane coming back from Raleigh yesterday. Ick.

My weekend at home was excellent. I love being with my parents and my kitty and my best friends. Something about driving around Raleigh and sharing meals with the people who know me best makes me unbelievably happy and at ease. I wish I could recreate that feeling here, but I'm not sure the comfort of home is something that can be recreated period. We all know how much I needed to get out of town for a few days, and I made the most out of my short time there. If only I could've stayed another week...sigh.

And of course, now I'm out of town yet again. I flew in yesterday afternoon, shopped a little with Claire (so excited to see her again--and *gasp* she might be roommate potential since she just bought a house and has extra rooms!!). You have no idea how thrilled I was at the thought of having someone to live with again. Eeek! And if the roommate thing doesn't work out, at least now that I've seen Claire again, I'll hopefully have somewhere to hang out when I'm bored and need a friend:) Also (hilariously), Claire and I came to discover that Andrew and Claire's dad are in the same all men's cooking club. Small world indeed.

So overall, I'm feeling a little better but still missing home. Its nice to still be out of town this week and away from my lonely apartment. And so much to look forward to when I get back into town next weekend: Claire's house, Sarah's cookoutpalooza and Andrew will finally be back in town! I've missed him a lot and can't wait to see him again..I hate to be sappy, but its true!

I hope everyone had a glorious weekend and a not so bad Monday so far!
