Sex and the City
Watch the new trailer here.2010 Changes
1. Budget for myself. I have never made a budget before. I think that I'm pretty financially savvy, and I never overspend and still do manage to save a little, even without a budget. But I know that I could be doing so much better. I was going to build my own elaborate program in Excel, but yesterday my co-worker introduced me to Quicken, and I'm going to try to set that up for myself today!
2. Save more, shop less (I don't want to become a crazy hoarder). See number one.
3. Lose 15 pounds. I know, I know...blah blah blah. But I really am finally mentally ready to make a lifestyle change. I want to eat healthier to have more energy, and go outside walking around the neighborhood once it gets warmer. No more being stuck inside my apartment all the time. I'm going to attempt the gym 3 times a week (even though I hate it...but I figure this will give me an excuse to buy more mags), and then hopefully some pilates in my apartment a couple of nights a week. Hopefully I'll tone up and lose a few pounds pretty fast!
4. Be a better friend/correspondent. I am horrible at calling and returning calls, and sending notes to friends. I dearly love my friends and think about them all the time. I need to show them more! And I have unlimited long distance on my home phone now--so out of town friends, get the number and use it!
5. Enjoy making my apartment more homey. I love living alone and being alone a lot of the time, so its weird to admit that I don't feel that "at home" in my place. I hang out there, wasting time in between seeing friends. I watch a lot of tv. And thats about it. This year I want to make little changes, maybe change some decorations to make myself feel more at home. This also includes cleaning more (I'm bad about leaving dishes in the sink...) and trying new recipes (I'd love to do 2 or 3 meals a month of all new things).

What are your changes/goals/resolutions? I'd love to hear!

Christmas Greetings!
-I ate lots of yummy food, but didn't get out of control. Later in the week I'll write some resolutions--which is not something I usually do--but eating better/healthier is definitely on that list. I'm not sure how its even possible, but I may have actually lost a pound last week. Good for me!
-I got some beautiful new earrings from my parents. I'm so thankful for them!
-I did plenty of shopping to get my fix for a while (but didn't over-spend...another good for me).
-I successfully attended my first high school reunion.
-I did lots of wrapping...my favorite!
And there's still plenty to look forward to! My parents followed me back to Atlanta for a little mini-visit, so I'm enjoying having them around for one more day. Although I must admit, I'll be really really happy to be by myself in my apartment again...living alone has spolied me. Plus, John and I have a really fun new years planned. We're having dinner at Ruth's Chris and going to a little club concert. I'm so excited! I never do anything fun for New Year's Eve (read: last year I sat at home and watched tv and was in bed by 11), so I'm really glad to be going out to have fun, but not going totally crazy to a big crowded hotel party or anything like that. Hopefully it'll be a great time. And its been almost two weeks since I've seen John, so I'm looking forward to getting back together after all of our family trips too.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Mine was nice, and I'm sad to see it end. But I'm definitely looking forward to next year, and a new set of possibilities (and hopefully more blog posts). Happy Holidays!

Cooking for the cooking challenged
So far, these are the recipes I'm thinking of doing:
COOL WHIP DELIGHT (from cooks.com)
1 lg. crushed pineapple
2 cans Mandarin oranges
1 (6 oz.) pkg. orange Jello
1 carton cottage cheese
1 lg. carton Cool Whip
Drain fruit well. Cut up Mandarin oranges. Mix in dry Jello powder. Add cottage cheese and Cool Whip. Mix well. Let stand overnight.
Easiest recipe ever...and its a childhood classic which I love. And I can make it ahead!
Baked Chicken with Onions, Garlic, and Rosemary (from globalgourmet.com)
Position a rack in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Rinse and pat dry:3-1/3 to 4-1/2 pounds chicken parts
Season liberally with:Salt and ground black pepper to taste
Toss together:3 medium onions, cut into rings
6 to 12 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary, or 2 teaspoons dried, crumbled
Spread half of the onion mixture in a shallow baking dish or roasting pan just large enough to hold the chicken pieces in a single layer. Arrange the chicken pieces skin side up on top, then cover with the remaining onion mixture.
Drizzle over the chicken:2 tablespoons olive oil
Bake the chicken until the dark meat pieces exude clear juices when pricked deeply with a fork, 45 to 55 minutes.
Sarina told me about this recipe last week. She made it and said it was wonderful and easy, so I'm going to give it a try and also add a few potatos to the mix. I'll let you know how it goes!
I'm thinking I'll probably make some crescent rolls for a little bread and a salad for some veggies. Sounds like an amazing dinner--and not all that complicated. Maybe if it goes well, I'll actually start to cook more often!

The faves
But never fear...next year there will be a fabulous girl's trip planned to somewhere wonderful, such as DC or New Orleans or maybe even the Jersey Shore!

Top Ten
— Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's Prime Minister, on the thousands of people left homeless by an April 6 earthquake that killed more than 300
Read this ridiculous quote and the top 9 others--plus any other top 10 item you can think of, in this TIME article. I love year end wrap-ups!
Today I love...
2. New Uggs I finally broke down a bought last week--at least they were on sale AND I got a free pair of Ugg flip flops too!
3. Naps...can't wait to get home and get in bed.
4. Christmas. Only 17 more days hooray!
5. Good books. I started The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown a few days ago and its great so far.
6. John...a sweetheart for taking me to see some Christmas light displays this weekend! Really, he's just an enabler for my Christmas addiction.
7. Blogs. For keeping me entertained.
8. Pink Old Navy coat, for keeping me warm!
9. Fresh balsam scented candle from Bath and Body Works. It smells like a real Christmas tree is in your house (even when you have a fake pre-lit like me)!
10. Peppermint brownies. Cold weather makes me want to bake, so my coworkers might just be eating these later this week.

'Tis the Season!
Sorry I've totally abandoned you lately. The blog has definitely taken a backseat to being incredibly busy at work, decorating my little home for Christmas (yay!) and just life in general. Let's see if I can get you up-to-speed pretty quickly.
1. Work has been good, but definitely busy with a new assignment I've been working on all last week and this week. Its nice to have something to keep me occupied though!
2. There's a new bf in my life, so I've been spending some time with him, which is nice :) We even went to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes last week (AMAZING), so we've been having tons of fun. I'm happy to have someone new and fun to get to know and spend time with--especially at Christmas, the best time of the year!
3. I love December. Even though we missed out on snow in Atlanta on Saturday, it got nice and cold--very Christmasy. There's lots of fun things going on, from holiday parties at work, to the WF alumni holiday party and other things with friends (and of course going home!). Obviously a very busy month. I've even convinced myself to actually do something for New Years Eve this year too--totally unlike me!
4. I've finished all my Christmas shopping. I feel like I spent a lot of money this year, but I really did get some great deals. I'm excited to give my gifts to all my friends and fam.
Photos of Christmas gifts and decorations and fun times to come...

Hello from Alabama, yet again
I've been in Birmingham all this week for work. Its been a nice week (a little too cold for my taste), but I'm definitely ready to go back home. Birmingham is nice--don't get me wrong. There are much worse places to go, but after being in AL a couple of weeks ago and then in NC last week, I feel like I haven't seen my apartment in a while.
I'm definitely looking forward to a nice weekend! Most importantly: New Moon is coming out in theaters! So excited. I'll be baking a cake and celebrating with my coworkers on Saturday. Then I'm going out to a great Greek restaurant with my out-to-eat group on Saturday night. Maybe even some hanging out with Claire on Sunday. Should be awesome!
AND I'm getting pretty excited for Thanksgiving! It'll be nice to see my family next week, even though I have to drive home (UGH). I suppose I can suck it up though, since this will be my first time driving back since I moved here almost a year ago. Sad for me :) And once Thanksgiving passes, it's officially Christmas season! I can't wait for Christmas music, food, parties, etc. Love love love. And I can't wait for some black Friday shopping too!

NC Bound!
I made it home safely from Alabama (aka meth country USA) last Friday, and enjoyed a lovely evening of Sex and the City and leftover Halloween candy. Saturday was long, but really fun. I met up with my good friend Kate who was in town from Mississippi, and we went to the Wake-Tech game. We started tailgating around noon, went into the game at 3:30 and lasted all the way through the overtime game. Of course, it took another half hour at least to get out of the parking lot, then we went to dinner in the Highlands at the Original El Taco (amazing--maybe even better than Tin Lizzy's...dare I say?). Needless to say it was a great day, despite the loss, but I was exhausted!
Sunday was spent being lazy and hanging out with a good friend. And now its already Tuesday, and I'm about to head home to NC for 5 whole days! Its odd to say, but I don't think I've been there for 5 days since last December. How crazy. Before I know it I'll be celebrating my one year anniversary of being in Atlanta. Time flies.

Very cute, right? And half price! Unfortunately it was monsooning a little too much here today for me to get to wear the cute black one, but I know that soon enough I'll be so sick of the cold that I'll be dreaming of shorts again. Fun fact: Christmas is 44 days away! xoxo

Quad Cities, Represent
1. They have a Bojangles!
2. There is a recording studio here called Fame Studios. I made a lot of fun of it when I was here back in the summer, because honestly, why would there be a recording studio in Muscle Shoals? I joked about recording my own album there, of course. But it turns out this place is really legit. Aretha Franklin, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and Carrie Underwood (along with tons of other celebs) have recorded big hits there. And who could forget the famous line in Sweet Home Alabama that says "Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers". Apparently the Swampers were a group of studio musicians who played on a lot of those great albums. And there's even a "Muscle Shoals sound". Who knew? Read more about it here.
So besides joking about meth labs and drinking in a bowling alley, the week has been pretty uneventful. Not much going on except work. I am definitely looking forward to being back in Atlanta tomorrow night, and hopefully going to the Wake game on Saturday when they play GA Tech in ATL! Hope everyone is having a fabulous week. xoxo.

Happy weekend!
I've got lots of fun things packed into my two days: dinner tonight and perhaps my friend's birthday party, lunch date tomorrow, perhaps some partying it up downtown tomorrow night and hopefully (finally) seeing Claire for our usual Sunday night dinner! I've missed her and Hailey dog too. So much fun does not bode well for my diet, but things have been going pretty good. I even had an egg white omlette this morning and a healthy sandwich for lunch. Hopefully I won't blow it too badly. And I plan on being back in the gym tomorrow morning. Such dedication--who am I?
Since I've been soo productive at work today (not!), I'll share a delicious recipe with you all courtesy of the Grove Park Inn (and the Food Network) that I made for Thanksgiving last year. I know, I know. It hasn't even bee Halloween yet, and I'm already thinking of Thanksgiving. But I love it! And the food! So here is my delicious cranberry pumpkin bread pudding. To die for.
Cranberry-Pumpkin Bread Pudding
Recipe courtesy Dave Rowland, Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa, Asheville, NC
Prep Time: 10 min
Cook Time: 1 hr 0 min
Serves: 6 to 8 servings
Ingredients
4 cups milk
1 cup granulated sugar
8 whole eggs
1/4 cup vanilla
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 (16-ounce) can pumpkin pie filling
Cubed bread (see Cook's Note)
1 cup fresh cranberries
Cook's Note: Day-old biscuits or croissants are best for this recipe. You will need enough to fill a 9 by 13-inch baking dish.
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, blend all ingredients, except for bread and cranberries. Fill a 9 by 13-inch baking dish with bread cubes. Sprinkle cranberries over bread cubes. Pour custard mixture over bread cubes, making sure that all cubes are submerged (push cubes down if necessary). Bake for about 1 hour, or until pudding is set. Serve warm.
Now I can't wait for November!

Gorgeous
_______________________________________________________
Day 3 of my new diet isn't going so well..we went out for lunch and I had a hamburger! Although, I've been craving one for about a week, so it was bound to happen sooner or later. I fully intend on a salad tonight at dinner with my Meat-n-Eat group. So excited to see the group--I haven't seen most of them since we got back from Disney over a month ago. I hate how we can all live (relatively) close by, but life gets hectic and I travel so much, that I rarely get to see anyone on a regular basis. Should be a fun night. I did go to the gym 3 days in a row, which is pretty unheard of for me--hooray!
In other excitement, we had a fire drill at work today...walking down 8 flights of stairs was not that fun. At least I didn't have to walk all the way back up too! I'm sure everyone in Midtown Atlanta was wondering what was going on at our building. Oh, the joys of working in the city.

New layout!
Nothing much new to report on as of late. I had a nice, relaxing weekend. I had a celebrity sighting of Cee-lo from Gnarls Barkley at Brio last Thursday! I was so excited! The dinner was delicious too. Friday I went to Rosa Mexicana at Atlantic Station for the first time (table-side guacamole=heaven) and saw Where the Wild Things Are (a little depressing, but I enoyed it...especially considering I remember nothing about the book). The company was lovely for both meals, too :) Saturday was spent cleaning, organizing, watching football and drinking wine...a fabulous day. As for Sunday, I barely even left my apartment all day except to go to the gym (yay me) and to go to Publix because I wanted to buy a gallon of sweet tea. It's the little things in life..
I'm currently on a little bit of a health kick, which is good for me. I've been to the gym 2 days in a row now, and fully intend on going again tonight, or at least walking outside for a good half hour. I'm sick of sitting on my butt at night and eating crap all the time. No more! I'll update with my progress..hopefully this is a good sign since I haven't even eaten my way through Thanksgiving yet, and I'm already inspired. I also signed up for a Zumba workout class at work, which should be really fun. Hopefully I can stay motivated!
Overall, life is very good. Meeting lots of new people has been fun, but semi-exhausting. I've been loving going out more and discovering new restaurants lately though. Tons of fun. I'm enjoying being in Atlanta without much travel for a while, and actually seeing friends and hanging out on the weekends again. I didn't have enough of that during the month of September. One thing I definitely do want to complain about: the sudden onset of winter. We went straight from 80 degrees to 45...something is wrong with that. I actually had to wear a winter coat yesterday and today. Ridiculous. I need at least a few more skirt days before everything turns frigid for the long haul.
Alas, that's my life at the moment. I'm also trying to think of some fun craft ideas--anything I can do indoors to prepare for the loooong winter ahead (yes, I realize I live in the deep south, but its still cold here!). Ideas are welcomed and appreciated. xoxo

Time for a change
I'm a little--ok, very--sad today, because its the first day of the NC State Fair in Raleigh. This is literally the first year of my life that I will not attend. Tragic. I love the fair in all its glory. Fried foods, friends, rides, little kid art, free hushpuppies, live animals and produce (the biggest pumpkins you'll ever see--who doesn't like that?). Sigh. I miss it already. At least maybe I can hit up the GA Fair when it happens in the spring...although, I think the spring is a weird time for a fair. October is perfect, and you won't convince me otherwise. I guess I'll just have to wait my turn until next year :) Here's some photos from the fair in 2006 and 2007 just for the sake of nostalgia:

Greetings from (almost) the Great White North
I am SO EXCITED right now for one very special reason: homecoming at Wake this weekend!! I haven't been to Winston since last November. Something totally unthinkable while I was spending a lovely 4 years of my life there. I can't wait to go back to campus, see the football game, cheer for the Deacs, and hang out with a few of my nearest and dearest. I can't wait! If only all my favorites could be there...sigh. Maybe one day when we all have tons of expendable income we can come and go for reunions as we please :) Now, all I have to do is not miss my plane and get myself back to NC!

And in other news, I'm feeling pretty good about life for various reasons. Sometimes it takes a totally new person or situation to be able to kick the past to the curb. I've been having a great time meeting new people and seeing that there really is more out there than I let myself believe sometimes. Like K and I were talking about on the phone last night--we're both finally getting little tastes of what we deserve, and its giving us faith that something really wonderful is on the horizon. How exciting! All we have to do is not let our crazy brains take over!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend, and hopefully I'll be back to more regular blogging next week!

Forgive me
So, a little bit of a September recap is needed. Disney was lovely and wonderful, but definitely not relaxing. I think it took me a week of sleep just to catch up! I was in Birmingham all last week for work, which was also fun. I like the city. We stayed downtown near the Five Points area (does every city in America have a Five Points? I think yes), and went to some great restaurants. I had delicious BBQ--NOT NC style--one night, and we went to a fabulous place called Highland Bar & Grill to celebrate my birthday a day early. We split lots of amazing appetizers including baked grits and spiny lobster tails, but the best part was definitely dessert. I had a chocolate bread pudding which was to die for. I also tasted the creme brulee which was like velvet. Delicious!
Luckily, we left Birmingham a day early, and I got to come back to ATL for my birthday. Honestly, any birthday after 21 is not really exciting, and a little bit of a let down. I loved the excuse to get my friends together, play trivia and drink martinis (and go to a crazy 80s dance party with the weirdest people I have ever seen), but the day didn't feel that special. I enjoyed it, and hopefully 23 will have a lot to offer this year! Friday I flew to Raleigh and had an awesome weekend at home. Pretty lazy overall--the most adult thing I did was get my own cell phone plan...it pained me to split off from my parents plan, but you've got to cut the apron strings eventually, right? I can barely even use my new phone, which makes me feel like an old person! I guess I'll just have to read the manual..sigh. I did some shopping, went to dinner at the Angus Barn, as is the usual bday tradition, and then got to see my wonderful friends on Sunday for dinner and a movie. FYI for anyone interested in seeing Love Happens, the new Jennifer Anniston movie: its a total downer. Just be prepared. Monday I took the day off and visited SCD at her school and got to see her classroom. It was so perfect, but I'd expect nothing less from her.
And now its back to the work grind for a couple of days. I'm only in the office for a 3 day week (only 2 now!), then I flex on Friday, and leave for class in Minneapolis for a week before homecoming at Wake next weekend!! So excited to go back to Winston! And in the mean time, so fairly exciting stuff is going on in my personal life, but I'll leave that update for another day :)
I hope you all are fabulous and are having a lovely start to fall. It was 55 degrees here this morning when I left my apartment! I love crisp weather, and I was not at all sad to say goodbye to this summer and close that chapter all together. Fall is definitely my favorite season, and I'm so glad its upon us. Has anything exciting happened with any of my awesome blog friends out there? Don't be shy! xoxo

Last day of 22!
Happy early birthday to me...best day of the year :)
Thursday, September 17, 2009
One of the best days of the year:
Plus, tomorrow is my flex day, which I will be spending hopefully shopping and hitting up the planetarium with Acree :) Later in the weekend, a movie and lunch date with Lauren, a party on Saturday with Jenn and maybe hanging out with Claire and Haley dog on Sunday! Lovely weekend ahead. I just need to recuperate a little before I have too much fun...I think I'm nursing a cold. Boo hiss. Hopefully I'll just load up on meds and be much better. Especially since I have some serious birthday shopping to do this weekend.
Since I've pretty much forgotten about my birthday all together this year, I decided today that my gift to myself would be a weekend of guilt free shopping. I might even purchase the Tory Burch shoes I've been wanting forever. We'll see :) Only one week left of being 22. I have a feeling this week will be a good one, especially in comparison some of the weeks earlier along in 22. Monday morning I leave for a lovely week in Birmingham...somewhere exotic to turn 23. Should be fun!

Back home
I feel like I need a vacation from my vacation today. I've got so much to do, but I'm so tired from all the walking around the parks that we did! Now I know how old people feel, I suppose :(

Disney Bound!

09/09/09
Home was excellent. The highlights include: eating too much of my mom and granny's food, seeing Be & Sara & Erin, going to the Britney Spears concert (2nd row!!!) with Matthew, seeing my cat, sleeping in my own bed, taking naps and generally enjoying life in NC. Oh, and I shopped for an entire day. Sigh...so wonderful.
And now I have something even more excellent to look forward to: Disney World tomorrow!! I'm really excited & can't wait to get out of Atlanta for a fun girl's weekend! Lord knows I deserve it after this summer.
And on that note: I had a very happy Labor day. Even though I know it isn't the official end, I was not at all sad to say goodbye to this summer. Too much going on, too many "learning experiences", and just too much in general. Looking back, obviously I'm glad it happened, but it was not easy to get through. At least at this point, I finally can say that I've turned some kind of corner and am well on my way to being totally back to normal. That doesn't mean 100% happy all the time...I don't think anybody feels that way. But, I am happy most of the time, which is more than I could say for myself about 2 months ago! I definitely feel ready for a change, though. Not sure what it will be. Maybe getting a roommate when my lease is up? Picking up a new hobby? Meeting new people or really throwing myself into the relationships I already have? Who knows, but I can definitely feel some kind of shift, and I'm really excited for it!
Have a happy hump day everyone! I'll be spending my evening gathering supplies for the trek to Orlando tomorrow night! Thank goodness for Target.

Peace Out
1. A Spelman college student was shot and killed early this morning on a college campus. Horrific.
2. A man was arrested for slapping someone's toddler who wouldn't be quiet in Wal-Mart.
So ready to get the hell out of Georgia. North Carolina tonight! Hooray!
EDIT to add: I can smell the college football in the air! GO DEACS this weekend! :)

What a freak

It reminds me of a memory I haven't thought of in years and years. In the late 80s and early 90s (the heyday of my childhood..sigh), my mom drove a gigantic white Buick. Whenever she took it to the carwash, there would be little pieces of the rubber carwash brushes like the ones above, stuck in the cracks near the windows and mirrors. I--for some obviously unknown reason--called those little pieces of stuff "information". That's right, little broken off pieces of carwash material was "information" to me. I was, like, four years old. Who am I? It took my parents months to figure out what I was talking about when I talked about finding "information" stuck to the outside of the car. Who knows what I was thinking...
They still laugh about it sometimes, but I hadn't thought about information in years. Its funny how one picture of something so mundane can take you right back to childhood. For me that means small town North Carolina in circa 1990. A little slice of heaven.
Sometimes nostalgia just starts to take over my brain like that...I don't really mind, either. I just cannot wait to go home and be surrounded by the best people I know this weekend. I don't care how old I get or how long I live away from NC, it'll always be home and I'll always get homesick if I don't go back often enough.

Could life get much better?
Although, I must admit I didn't accomplish my two main weekend goals:
1. Buy a new suit. Everything at the outlets was ugly.
2. Meet Ludacris at a liquor store meet-n-greet on Saturday at Green's. I figured my chances of seeing him in a random liquor store around Atlanta some time in the future are pretty high...
But, I did do a lot of quality Sex and the City watching! That counts for something, right? Plus, last night I did laundry and washed dishes. If only I could bring myself to actually vacuum. Very doubtful. Tonight I must watch my usual Monday night tv (plus Greek, yay) and possibly pop out to Urban Outfitters to pick something up. We'll see how motivated I am.
Exciting, wonderful, awesome things that are happening in the next few days:
-Raleigh on Thursday, hooray!
-BRITNEY on Saturday with Matthew.
-some good bbq eating at home, hopefully.
-DISNEY in 10

Trivia Champ
I've got a pretty uneventful weekend planned so far. Sleepover party with Acree tonight (very excited), probably seeing the lovely Marietta crew tomorrow and possibly even a trip to the outlet mall on Sunday. Overall, sounds promising to me! And even better, I'll be home in less than a week. I haven't been able to say that for two months.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

A genuinely good day
Today I'm particularly happy about:
1. Going out to lunch somewhere totally delicious.
2. My lovely co-workers.
3. The fact that Sarina is here and we got to hang out last night! A short visit is still a good visit!
4. Potential outlet mall shopping this weekend.
5. Serious girl time this weekend.
6. My fabulous co-workers who I like more every day.
7. Leftover Mexican food for dinner tonight :)
8. Trivia tonight.
9. Raleigh in one week!
10. Friday tomorrow!
And this makes me happy:
There's just something really nice about sailboats, right? Wish I was there now :)

New Day...
Again, my friends are wondeful people to put up with my crazy phone calls. I love you all dearly, and am lucky to have you in my life. I can pretty much guarantee you haven't received the last slightly insane call from me, but hopefully they'll be fewer and more far between now :)

Not so good
So now I've got a little bit of soul-searching to do, and I'm not so excited about it. Last night I just wanted to run to NC and hide under the covers at my parents' house. But, thats kind of the crappy thing about being a grown-up, especially a grown up who lives 6 hours away from home. That's not really possible. Sigh. At least I get to be there in 9 days...thank goodness. This weekend I'll just have to occupy myself with my lovely friends.
Plus, my day was doubly worse because I've got some crazy spring-time-esque allergies going on. My scratchy throat and puffy eyes are very attractive...not!
Hopefully I'll be feeling better tonight. I have a feeling its just going to be one of those weeks, and I'll deal with it. Probably won't be pleasant, but I'll make it.

The Hope Diamond

New week, new attitude
Now I'm back to another work week--an actual 5 day work week, too. Boo hiss. But it should be a nice, quiet time in the office without too many meetings, so I can't complain too much.
And, as always, I've got other stuff going on this week to keep my brain fully occupied. I'm a little bit anxious about it, so I hope I can keep that under control and just be calm this week. Whatever happens, will happen. I just need to keep repeating the "I will accept what I cannot change" mantra to myself. Ugh. But on the positive side: Sarina is coming down for a whirlwind visit on Wednesday! Hooray! How lucky am I to get to have another visit with a Wake friend that I didn't even expect.
Also, I am beyond excited that my countdown to Raleigh is only 10 days, and the Disney World countdown is 17! YAY!

The flex day has been very successful. I went to the gym (I know...insane), watched lots of excellent day time tv, had an eye doctor appt that I've been putting off for months and am currently making a chicken/stuffing/vegetable casserole in my oven! I also bought weights at Target this afternoon...who is this fitness-loving person? Not sure, but I'm going to run with it while I can. And I hope the cooking goes well, so it will lead to more in the future.
Something relatively major is coming up most likely next week, and I'm a little apprehensive about it. Hopefully everything will go well and I can get through it without freaking out too much. Have a happy Friday night friends!

I've got nothing new to report since yesterday, except that I'm terribly homesick for good old NC. I'm pretty excited about the fact that I'll be there in two weeks! Hooray! I might even treat myself to a Bojangles run this weekend. This three day weekend. Sigh...how wonderful. Not sure what I'll be doing yet. Hopefully seeing some friends--including a Wake friend who just moved here for grad school yay!--and seeing at least one movie. We'll see. I'm also going to allow myself to go to Lenox mall tomorrow. I know it'll be glorious. I also need to do other unfun things like cleaning and going to the gym...oh well. At any rate, its still the weekend.
I'm hoping for no rain so that I can stack up some mags and sit by the pool for hours and hours. Fingers crossed! Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Happy
Last night I had dinner and attempted to play trivia with my new work friend! We live right around the corner from each other, so we went to a place within walking distance that just opened. The food was good, but it was their first night doing trivia, and it started an hour late, so we gave up and left. It was still really fun to get together with someone from work--we have lots in common and had lots of fun together. Can't wait to do it again maybe next week!
Today has been a busy one at the office, and tonight I'm looking forward to doing as little as possible. I've got to pick up a bridal shower gift and mail some things, but otherwise I plan to sit on the couch and do nothing. Its supposed to rain for the rest of the week, and I'd love a thunderstorm to listen to tonight!
And for everyone's viewing pleasure, a trailer for Chris Rock's new movie. Hysterical.

Positivity!
1. Congrats to K who got herself into a fabulous law school (very last minute, but hey, when you're in, you're in). I am beyond thrilled for her and am so excited she is slowly coming south and getting closer to me! Also, she wins the prize for my only friend who has ever called me to say "hey, I moved into school in another state, but before I could even sleep in my new bed, I'm moving into another school in another state." Crazy.
2. Another one of my bffs just found out she has a second round interview for a fabulous job in ATLANTA next week! I don't even really want to let myself think about her getting this job--it would be too perfect and I will not jinx it. But, if I do let myself get a little carried away....it would solve my lack of roommate problem and a long-distance friend problem in one swoop!
3. My new friends at work are amazing. I'm going to trivia tonight with one of them--its been ages and I'm so excited to be going again! So happy to meet new wonderful people.
4. Yesterday, while I was reading random facebook profiles, I stumbled on someone's page that listed one of their activities as "accepting things which I cannot change". Pretty profound I think. I even wrote it on a post-it note in my apartment. This little phrase might just be a step in the right direction of consistent happiness, and that is a very good thing!
5. I get to go home in 16 days! I realized the other day that I'm totally homesick...missing Raleigh really badly. It happens when I don't get to go home for over a month. I can't wait to go home and see everyone (especially my cat) soon!
6. I'm going to Disney World on vacation with some of my wonderful ATL friends in less than a month! Yay!! I've been wanting to go to Disney for a long while, and I can't wait for the opportunity to bond with the girls for a long weekend in the happiest place on earth.
7. I've been cooking more. I even bought lots of real groceries and chicken breasts last weekend. I'm going to attempt to make a real meal on Friday!
8. There are at least 3 movies out right now that I want to see (Julie and Julia, The Time Traveler's Wife---I told you yesterday that I'm an emotional cutter, right?, and Post Grad coming out this weekend). I love going to the movies (even though it costs $10 in Atlanta...boo).
9. Rainy weather. My favorite.
10. I swear that the Sex and the City movie is better than therapy. Watch it...you'll see what I mean.

Monday rambles
First, a life update. I realize that my last post was a downer, but whatever. Some days just kind of suck, and Friday was one of those days unfortunately. Just kind of blah and thinking about all kinds of things I shouldn't have been thinking about and hanging around the apartment all day by myself. Not such a great way to spend a day off. I'll admit: even makeup and shoe shopping could not perk me up, which is rare. Usually retail therapy is just the ticket, but lately I've been a little bored with shopping. Insanity, I know. So, Friday was sucky and boring and unfortunately that feeling carried over to Saturday morning. But luckily, I perked myself up because Amy and Sarah came over to spend the night! We went to the Braves game in the afternoon--so fun, they beat the Phillies in the bottom of the 9th (and I actually know what "bottom of the 9th" means). Our seats were in the shade the whole time, too. Overall, really awesome. Afterwards, we went to Trader Joe's to stock up on deliciousness before going out for the evening. We started at Moon Dogs, which was really fun and cheap and smoky, in a college bar kind of way. Then we moved over to Fado for the rest of the evening. I had a really great time with the girls!
Sunday morning, we all woke up feeling pretty gross even though we didn't go too crazy the night before. Again, I'm old. We had lunch at Tin Lizzy's and I spent the rest of the afternoon being a lazy bum on the couch with all my new HD channels. Also chatted with Sarina on the phone, which is always nice. We feel the same way about a lot of things, and I feel like we're going through a similar life situation right now. In short, I don't feel so crazy once I talk to her, which is a good feeling (especially since I feel like the crazy has kind of been taking over me lately).
Overall a good weekend. Having the girls spend the night also reinforced my want for a roommate. It was awesome having them around to make dinner with, get ready with, and just to sit around watching tv with on Sunday morning. Its definitely the little things like that I miss the most about having a roomie. Hopefully something will work out by the time my lease is up!
In other news, I'm finally back in my office after the whopping four weeks out. I've felt kind of antsy here all day, but I'm having fun catching up with everyone. I was especially excited to meet the two new people in my office. They are both young and really nice. I'm so excited to have more friends here now--and my age!
And of course I must comment on all the celeb news I've been neglecting as of late:
1. Jon and Kate is still depressing. I try my best not to watch, but just can't stop. Also, I read on US Weekly this morning that this week is the one year anniversary of their vow renewal in Hawaii. How sad.
2. Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant. With her creepy ex-bf's baby. Need I say more?
3. Melissa Joan Hart and Aaron Carter are both going to be on DWTS next season. That might be enough to finally put me over the edge and force me to watch!

Home at last
But here I am again: alone in Atlanta. You would think I'd be thrilled to finally be home after an epic month of travel. I finally have time to sit around by myself and do as little as possible. This is a three day weekend, after all. Most people would be happy...usually, I'd be happy. But something just isn't right. I'm still unhappy. Unsatisfied...whatever you want to call it. Obviously, the root of the problem is still the same. I wish I could shake it, but I just can't right now. I've pretty much stopped trying. Sometimes you have to just let yourself wallow a little and deal with it. Unfortunate, but true I think. And after talking to my bffs, they convinced me that I'm going to need some closure eventually. Meaning: when the "end of the summer" rolls around--whatever that means--if a certain someone hasn't called me, I'm going to have to contact him myself and just talk things out. Its pretty painful to think about, but necessary. Honestly, I wish I could get it over with now, but I've got to at least give it until September. Hopefully I'll be able to be as positive and happy as possible until I get up the courage to make the call (or email, hehe).
Anyway, thanks to all my lovely friends & readers, and K in particular, for continuing to actually speak to me and be interested in my life and deal with me on the phone when I call out of the blue totally depressed and then am back to normal about 5 mins later. Myabe I'm bipolar and should see a therapist and/or pharmacist, haha. Or maybe not...don't want to develop a Michael Jackson situation!
And just to finish things off on a positive note, here are a few good things about today, that even a sometime-emotional-trainwreck can appreciate:
-my new HD cable! the channels are amazing.
-sleeping in my own bed
-my washing machine is working normally again!
-closet organization
-gorgeous weather
-hopefully laying out by the pool later
-fun plans with friends tomorrow :)

Pointless Nostalgia
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/23/fashion/23nostalgia.html?_r=2&adxnnl=1&ref=fashion&adxnnlx=1249051672-ZbPIjhOQl8TXaPrKoMJYDg (for some reason my linking isn't working correctly, so you get a big ugly link!).
I'm proud to report today that I'm starting fresh (in baby-step kind of ways). Last night I forced myself to delete some things from my phone and computer that I'd been holding onto for no reason in particular--just because its what I do, and always have done. Anyway, it hurt to press "delete", but I almost felt lighter once I did. It provided a lot more release than I had expected. So, my fresh start is beginning just before a big, long two week trip to our nation's capital. I've been looking forward to this trip for months! Not only do I get to see K again, but Emily is coming for a weekend and I get to see KT and Ash, too! Personally, I'm excited about all of the above, but seeing my Big in particular. She is one of the best listening/ranting/complaining/commisserating partners I have. It kills me that I don't ever get to talk to her in person anymore, but I'll finally get to see her in a few days!
Happy weekend to everyone, and safe travels if you are going anywhere exciting! I'll update as much as I can from D.C. K and I have decided the ultimate goal for the week is to take a half decent facebook photo--hopefully we'll succeed!

Things I enjoy at the moment
2.Raisonettes.
3. Hotel indoor pools.
4. My friends.
5. Rainbow flip flops.
6. Outback steakhouse Wallaby Darned drinks.
7. Pandora radio.
Back to ATL tomorrow, which I'm very excited about. I've got two weeks worth of packing to do in a short time. I also want to make sure I get to see a couple of friends before I leave town for two weeks straight--especially Kate, since she's moving to Mississippi while I'm gone :( So, hopefully I'll be able to get all my work/errands/packing done and I'll get to see my friends in just the few short days that I'm home. Half way done with the month-o-travel marathon, hooray! It'll probably feel weird to actually go back into the office after all this, but it'll definitely be nice to be back in my normal routine and my own bed.
Also, its almost reunion time again!! Not only do I get to see Sara in DC (total pleasant surprise), but I also get to see K again and Emily! Hooray! Not to mention Ash and KT who live in Maryland right outside the city. I am soo excited! It'll be the first time so many of us have been together since homecoming at Wake last year!

Music
1. Aly & AJ, Potential Breakup Song. Teeny bopper music at its finest...thanks, Pandora, for making me feel 14 again.
2. Taylor Swift, You Belong With Me. I tried hard not to like this girl, but I'm pretty much at the point of purchasing her cd. She is awesome, and I can't deny it anymore.
3. Lady Gaga, Lovegame. Love Lady Gaga, love her cd, love her crazy image.
4. Keri Hilson, Love Knocks You Down. Still obsessed with this song. Its awesome, period.

Quarter life crisis
I am my own best example: I have to constantly remind myself of just how lucky I am, when I should just be living it every day. It's been a long, hard summer so far. Lots of missing home & all of my Wake friends & a certain other person--we all know who I'm refering to on that front. Adjusting to Atlanta in general. I can honestly say that the past two months of my life have been harder in every single way than any months I've lived up until now. I've experienced just about every emotion possible--sadness, depression, lonliness, happiness, giddiness, frustration and overall calm.
The crazy thing is, a lot of my friends have been feeling the same way. Maybe not as super-emotional as I've been (thank goodness for them!), but still very "in between" in lots of ways. They've had breakups and guy troubles, family issues, birthdays making them older, challenges and tests that maybe they've passed or maybe they've failed. There's been lots of great things too--vacations and visits and summer fun in general. But everyone is still unsettled. I think that unsettled feeling comes from one place only: ourselves. Our generation of young twenty-somethings doesn't have the typical parental pressures of generations past. We put pressure on ourselves. We compare ourselves to our peers, and it makes us more and more frustrated with all the achievements we have--and believe me, they are many.
I was talking with my friend Kate last week, and she told me about a book she recently read called Surviving the Quarter Life Crisis. I haven't read it yet, but it seems like its pretty worthwhile. Its all about how we shouldn't put so much pressure on ourselves and compare ourselves to our peers who are getting promoted, getting married, etc--whatever the case may be. Instead, we should compare ourselves to our younger self. I picture myself at 16, then I picture myself now. I've come a hell of a long way, and should be really really proud! Everyone should take the time to do this. Not everyone is meant to start a booming career or a family at the same point in life, so why make yourself miserable by looking around at others and thinking of all you don't have? It'd ridiculous and isn't worth the heartache. Plus, you never know what those people's lives are really like on the inside. Who knows--they could be looking back at you and comparing themselves to your fabulous life!
Alright, enough of my little rant for now. I definitely don't think I've discovered anything monumental in my realizations, but at least now I'm certain that I'm not alone--very far from it, actually. Everyone has their own fears and mental blocks, and that doesn't make you crazy. I think it makes you normal. For me, life (and all the emotions and thoughts it entails) is still very day by day. Sure, I'd like to be more happy and carefree overall and less lonely sometimes, but I've definitely learned more about myself in the past two months of rollercaoster living, than I have in the past 22 years of smooth sailing. And that's what the early 20s are for, right? I hope so!

Homeward bound!
Week one of my 4 week travel marathon--check. Next week, Alabama. Then DC for two weeks straight. I have to admit that I love traveling for my job. Especially weeks like this when I get a fabulous hotel suite all to myself. Its almost as big as my apartment, and I don't have to worry about cleaning anything. What could be better than that? I'm pretty sure if you were to ask me again in three weeks, I'd tell you I'm totally sick of hotels and never want to go anywhere again. We'll see.
I hope you all have something fun planned this weekend. Have a fabulous time doing whatever it might be!

A few thoughts
2. Briget Jones is coming back for a threequel! While I know in the back of my mind that this movie will suck (the second one was not good at all), of course I'll still watch it. Too bad it doesn't even start filming until later this winter.
3. Dan Brown's new book The Lost Symbol is coming out in a couple of months! He hasn't had a new book out since I was in high school, so obviously I can't wait to read this one!
4. I'm leaving Tampa tomorrow, hooray! Ok, it really isn't soo bad here, we just not in the nicest area of town. Its just way too hot. Although, there is an awesome mall right across the street from the hotel, where I went last night by myself and bought these gorgeous brown boots I've been eyeing since winter. Thank goodness for the Nordstrom sale! We might even go back tonight after going out for drinks for my co-worker's birthday:)

5. Parents are coming this weekend! With my new, beautiful re-covered chair! Yay!

Busy, Busy, Busy
The weekend was fabulous. Sarina arrived Friday morning, while Kristin and I were still too lazy to have even gotten out of bed yet. Thursday night we went out for dinner at Tin Lizzies in Buckhead with two of my friends from Marietta--we had so much fun and the food was delicious! Friday, once Sarina arrived, we went to Lenox, where I decided to get my makeup done for the Singles Mingle at the High Museum that night. Note to readers: never go to the mall in the middle of the afternoon asking for a "subtle" smoky eye at Sephora. You will come out looking like a drag queen. I had soo much BLACK eye makeup on--it went up to my eyebrow, and she piled on about 18 days worth of mascara, all at once. I wiped half of it off in the store, and another chunk off at home. It looked pretty fab once I did that--but goodness knows what I looked like in the mall that afternoon. We went to dinner at Mary Mac's Tea Room--the girls loved it. Delicious Southern cuisine at its finest. YUM. Then of course, we went to the High for the singles mingle party, where almost everyone was approx 15 years older than us (or more!). Luckily, we maanged to find the one other young person there--a guy named David who was really nice, and we ended up hanging out with him at the museum for the rest of the night.
Saturday was so much fun. We spent the morning being lazy and sitting by the pool. We also walked up to this coffee ship right across the street from me--so cute! Plus, they have live music at night, as well as wine and real food too. I can't wait to go back! In the afternoon, I successfully navigated MARTA (train and bus) to get us to my very first Braves game! It was hot as Hades, but we sunscreened up before we left, and somehow all of us managed not to get burned! The game was lots of fun--our seats were awesome. I had a delicious hot dog and a funnel cake, and probably looked ridiculous wearing a big straw hat (pics to come), but I had a blast. Which is saying A LOT for me at a baseball game. We managed to stick it out until the 8th, and then we went home because the hometeam was losing anyway, and we had had enough of the heat. Back at my apartment, we all collapsed on the floor for a while, and of course, I managed to get emotional about my last night with my friends there (who am i these days?!). Luckily I recovered and my wonderful friends reminded me that I'll see them both again super soon when I go to DC. They're the best. So, we went to the club Opera, where the line was completely out of control. Being the sneaky ladies that we are, we just mosied up the front to ask the guys at the door a "question", and they let us completely cut the line! Inside the club was fantastic--awesome music, tons of people (awesome people watching!), and lots of bad dancing on my part. We danced with lots of crazy guys, and eventually met up with David from the night before, and his friend Kyle who went to Wake. Small world! We danced until it wasn't possible to sweat anymore, and finally got home around 3am...felt like freshman year again:)
Sunday morning we shared a lovely meal at Waffle House, working on not much sleep at all. Then we sadly sent Kristin off to the airport:( Sarina and I spent the rest of the day roaming around downtown. We went to Centennial Park, walked by the World of Coke and the Aquarium, caught some live music in the park and went through the CNN Center. By that afternoon, I sent her off to the airport as well, and I was alone again..sigh. I miss my friends so much, but luckily didn't have time to mope around too much, because I had to pack for Tampa, which is where I am now.
I barely made it to the airport in time on Monday morning, thanks to MARTA issues and long lines, but thankfully made it in the nick of time. We made it to the bank, which is nice enough, but I'm really not crazy about Tampa. I don't know what I was expecting, but not this. There's tons of construction and its really, really hot. Maybe just not as pretty as I would've liked. Ehh, whatever. I'll be more than ready to go home on Friday.
I hope you all had great weekends, and we're already halfway through the week! There is a slight chance my parents will be visiting this weekend, which would be lovely. We'll see. Happy Wednesday!
