Anyone who knows me knows that I'm an extremely nostalgic person. I hold onto scraps of anything that remind me of a special time or a person I miss. I have a hard time throwing away class notes from 6th grade. I have every movie ticket stub from the last decade. And in our increasingly digital/computerized world, I told onto texts and voicemails and emails that I probably shouldn't. I can become nostalgic about everything. The good news is: apparently, I'm not the only one! This recent NY Times article talks about Generation Y's affliction of being nostalgic about the not so distant past, because it reminds us of our childhoods (mere years ago) and provides us comfort.

I'm proud to report today that I'm starting fresh (in baby-step kind of ways). Last night I forced myself to delete some things from my phone and computer that I'd been holding onto for no reason in particular--just because its what I do, and always have done. Anyway, it hurt to press "delete", but I almost felt lighter once I did. It provided a lot more release than I had expected. So, my fresh start is beginning just before a big, long two week trip to our nation's capital. I've been looking forward to this trip for months! Not only do I get to see K again, but Emily is coming for a weekend and I get to see KT and Ash, too! Personally, I'm excited about all of the above, but seeing my Big in particular. She is one of the best listening/ranting/complaining/commisserating partners I have. It kills me that I don't ever get to talk to her in person anymore, but I'll finally get to see her in a few days!
Happy weekend to everyone, and safe travels if you are going anywhere exciting! I'll update as much as I can from D.C. K and I have decided the ultimate goal for the week is to take a half decent facebook photo--hopefully we'll succeed!

Things I enjoy at the moment
1. Small town Alabama.
2.Raisonettes.
3. Hotel indoor pools.
4. My friends.
5. Rainbow flip flops.
6. Outback steakhouse Wallaby Darned drinks.
7. Pandora radio.
Back to ATL tomorrow, which I'm very excited about. I've got two weeks worth of packing to do in a short time. I also want to make sure I get to see a couple of friends before I leave town for two weeks straight--especially Kate, since she's moving to Mississippi while I'm gone :( So, hopefully I'll be able to get all my work/errands/packing done and I'll get to see my friends in just the few short days that I'm home. Half way done with the month-o-travel marathon, hooray! It'll probably feel weird to actually go back into the office after all this, but it'll definitely be nice to be back in my normal routine and my own bed.
Also, its almost reunion time again!! Not only do I get to see Sara in DC (total pleasant surprise), but I also get to see K again and Emily! Hooray! Not to mention Ash and KT who live in Maryland right outside the city. I am soo excited! It'll be the first time so many of us have been together since homecoming at Wake last year!

Music
Some songs I'm obsessed with at the moment:
1. Aly & AJ, Potential Breakup Song. Teeny bopper music at its finest...thanks, Pandora, for making me feel 14 again.
2. Taylor Swift, You Belong With Me. I tried hard not to like this girl, but I'm pretty much at the point of purchasing her cd. She is awesome, and I can't deny it anymore.
3. Lady Gaga, Lovegame. Love Lady Gaga, love her cd, love her crazy image.
4. Keri Hilson, Love Knocks You Down. Still obsessed with this song. Its awesome, period.

Quarter life crisis
I have recently discovered a recurring theme in most of my closest friends: the quarter-life crisis, or some variation of it. No one is really happy or totally satisfied (even though by any normal standards, I have very successful friends--grad school, full time jobs, etc). Everyone is just anticipating whatever is about to happen next. Yes, I realize we are only in our early 20s, and its natural to be constantly looking to the future. But are we totally losing sight of the present by doing so? I think yes, in a lot of ways.
I am my own best example: I have to constantly remind myself of just how lucky I am, when I should just be living it every day. It's been a long, hard summer so far. Lots of missing home & all of my Wake friends & a certain other person--we all know who I'm refering to on that front. Adjusting to Atlanta in general. I can honestly say that the past two months of my life have been harder in every single way than any months I've lived up until now. I've experienced just about every emotion possible--sadness, depression, lonliness, happiness, giddiness, frustration and overall calm.
The crazy thing is, a lot of my friends have been feeling the same way. Maybe not as super-emotional as I've been (thank goodness for them!), but still very "in between" in lots of ways. They've had breakups and guy troubles, family issues, birthdays making them older, challenges and tests that maybe they've passed or maybe they've failed. There's been lots of great things too--vacations and visits and summer fun in general. But everyone is still unsettled. I think that unsettled feeling comes from one place only: ourselves. Our generation of young twenty-somethings doesn't have the typical parental pressures of generations past. We put pressure on ourselves. We compare ourselves to our peers, and it makes us more and more frustrated with all the achievements we have--and believe me, they are many.
I was talking with my friend Kate last week, and she told me about a book she recently read called Surviving the Quarter Life Crisis. I haven't read it yet, but it seems like its pretty worthwhile. Its all about how we shouldn't put so much pressure on ourselves and compare ourselves to our peers who are getting promoted, getting married, etc--whatever the case may be. Instead, we should compare ourselves to our younger self. I picture myself at 16, then I picture myself now. I've come a hell of a long way, and should be really really proud! Everyone should take the time to do this. Not everyone is meant to start a booming career or a family at the same point in life, so why make yourself miserable by looking around at others and thinking of all you don't have? It'd ridiculous and isn't worth the heartache. Plus, you never know what those people's lives are really like on the inside. Who knows--they could be looking back at you and comparing themselves to your fabulous life!
Alright, enough of my little rant for now. I definitely don't think I've discovered anything monumental in my realizations, but at least now I'm certain that I'm not alone--very far from it, actually. Everyone has their own fears and mental blocks, and that doesn't make you crazy. I think it makes you normal. For me, life (and all the emotions and thoughts it entails) is still very day by day. Sure, I'd like to be more happy and carefree overall and less lonely sometimes, but I've definitely learned more about myself in the past two months of rollercaoster living, than I have in the past 22 years of smooth sailing. And that's what the early 20s are for, right? I hope so!

Homeward bound!
SO excited about flying back to Atlanta today! I should probably be outside enjoying my last bit of Florida sunshine right now, but frankly its too hot and Florida sunshine isn't all its cracked up to be. Plus, I don't want to get completely burnt before I get on the plane.
Week one of my 4 week travel marathon--check. Next week, Alabama. Then DC for two weeks straight. I have to admit that I love traveling for my job. Especially weeks like this when I get a fabulous hotel suite all to myself. Its almost as big as my apartment, and I don't have to worry about cleaning anything. What could be better than that? I'm pretty sure if you were to ask me again in three weeks, I'd tell you I'm totally sick of hotels and never want to go anywhere again. We'll see.
I hope you all have something fun planned this weekend. Have a fabulous time doing whatever it might be!

A few thoughts
1. Why is everyone and their cousin dating Jon Gosselin all of a sudden?? He is NOT cute. He had 8 kids. He used to be married to Kate and is STILL on a show with her. He just got both of his ears pierced for God's sake. He is NOT A CATCH!
2. Briget Jones is coming back for a threequel! While I know in the back of my mind that this movie will suck (the second one was not good at all), of course I'll still watch it. Too bad it doesn't even start filming until later this winter.
3. Dan Brown's new book The Lost Symbol is coming out in a couple of months! He hasn't had a new book out since I was in high school, so obviously I can't wait to read this one!
4. I'm leaving Tampa tomorrow, hooray! Ok, it really isn't soo bad here, we just not in the nicest area of town. Its just way too hot. Although, there is an awesome mall right across the street from the hotel, where I went last night by myself and bought these gorgeous brown boots I've been eyeing since winter. Thank goodness for the Nordstrom sale! We might even go back tonight after going out for drinks for my co-worker's birthday:)

5. Parents are coming this weekend! With my new, beautiful re-covered chair! Yay!

Busy, Busy, Busy
Here's a quick update for all my lovely readers:
The weekend was fabulous. Sarina arrived Friday morning, while Kristin and I were still too lazy to have even gotten out of bed yet. Thursday night we went out for dinner at Tin Lizzies in Buckhead with two of my friends from Marietta--we had so much fun and the food was delicious! Friday, once Sarina arrived, we went to Lenox, where I decided to get my makeup done for the Singles Mingle at the High Museum that night. Note to readers: never go to the mall in the middle of the afternoon asking for a "subtle" smoky eye at Sephora. You will come out looking like a drag queen. I had soo much BLACK eye makeup on--it went up to my eyebrow, and she piled on about 18 days worth of mascara, all at once. I wiped half of it off in the store, and another chunk off at home. It looked pretty fab once I did that--but goodness knows what I looked like in the mall that afternoon. We went to dinner at Mary Mac's Tea Room--the girls loved it. Delicious Southern cuisine at its finest. YUM. Then of course, we went to the High for the singles mingle party, where almost everyone was approx 15 years older than us (or more!). Luckily, we maanged to find the one other young person there--a guy named David who was really nice, and we ended up hanging out with him at the museum for the rest of the night.
Saturday was so much fun. We spent the morning being lazy and sitting by the pool. We also walked up to this coffee ship right across the street from me--so cute! Plus, they have live music at night, as well as wine and real food too. I can't wait to go back! In the afternoon, I successfully navigated MARTA (train and bus) to get us to my very first Braves game! It was hot as Hades, but we sunscreened up before we left, and somehow all of us managed not to get burned! The game was lots of fun--our seats were awesome. I had a delicious hot dog and a funnel cake, and probably looked ridiculous wearing a big straw hat (pics to come), but I had a blast. Which is saying A LOT for me at a baseball game. We managed to stick it out until the 8th, and then we went home because the hometeam was losing anyway, and we had had enough of the heat. Back at my apartment, we all collapsed on the floor for a while, and of course, I managed to get emotional about my last night with my friends there (who am i these days?!). Luckily I recovered and my wonderful friends reminded me that I'll see them both again super soon when I go to DC. They're the best. So, we went to the club Opera, where the line was completely out of control. Being the sneaky ladies that we are, we just mosied up the front to ask the guys at the door a "question", and they let us completely cut the line! Inside the club was fantastic--awesome music, tons of people (awesome people watching!), and lots of bad dancing on my part. We danced with lots of crazy guys, and eventually met up with David from the night before, and his friend Kyle who went to Wake. Small world! We danced until it wasn't possible to sweat anymore, and finally got home around 3am...felt like freshman year again:)
Sunday morning we shared a lovely meal at Waffle House, working on not much sleep at all. Then we sadly sent Kristin off to the airport:( Sarina and I spent the rest of the day roaming around downtown. We went to Centennial Park, walked by the World of Coke and the Aquarium, caught some live music in the park and went through the CNN Center. By that afternoon, I sent her off to the airport as well, and I was alone again..sigh. I miss my friends so much, but luckily didn't have time to mope around too much, because I had to pack for Tampa, which is where I am now.
I barely made it to the airport in time on Monday morning, thanks to MARTA issues and long lines, but thankfully made it in the nick of time. We made it to the bank, which is nice enough, but I'm really not crazy about Tampa. I don't know what I was expecting, but not this. There's tons of construction and its really, really hot. Maybe just not as pretty as I would've liked. Ehh, whatever. I'll be more than ready to go home on Friday.
I hope you all had great weekends, and we're already halfway through the week! There is a slight chance my parents will be visiting this weekend, which would be lovely. We'll see. Happy Wednesday!

Almost weekend!
What a quick day its been--almost time to go home! Tomorrow isn't exactly the weekend--I'll be working from home, but at least I won't be in the office. Today is my last day in the office for quite a while, actually. I'm looking forward to my travel marathon and seeing lots of new places.
Tonight Kristin and I are having dinner with a couple of my Marietta friends, then hopefully going out to trivia! Its the first time I've been in a long while, and I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. Tomorrow night there's a really fun singles mingle (lame sounding, I know) at the High museum. Lots of live jazz music outside, cocktails and meeting new people at the museum, which is one of my favorite places in Atlanta. I'm pretty excited about going and being able to drag K and Sarina with me! That's another part of the great news--Sarina arrives tomorrow morning! What a lucky girl am I to have two of my best friends here at once! So, I'm sure we'll do the museum, do some shopping and hopefully get to a Braves game too. Should be an awesome weekend before I leave for Florida on Monday.
Happy weekend to you all! I can't wait to update with lots of fun stories and pictures from my lovely guests' visit:)

Happy Day
Today is lovely for a variety of reasons. I just met K for lunch in Midtown right across from my office, where we had delicious breakfast food and then sat outside on benches and chatted for the rest of my lunch hour. The weather in Atlanta is perfect today--warm, not hot, and a little overcast. Gorgeous. Perfect day for a picnic...maybe we'll eat our dinner by the pool this evening?
We had lots of fun last night too. We met my friend Kate at her cute house in the Highlands and went out for Thai food. We sat there for much longer than I realized, talking about everything from politics (don't get me started) to law school (where K will be come August) and, of course, all of our boy troubles (plenty to go around at this table, let me assure you). We had the best time, and it made me more sad that Kate will be leaving me soon to move to Jackson. Boo hiss. Maybe i'll get to visit her for Mardi Gras though!
The past 3 nights of staying up late have started to catch up with me--I'm an old lady, I know. I'm hoping tonight I'll get to bed earlyish, even though I feel bad since I have a guest! Oh well, only one more day of getting up early this week because I'm finishing up my week working from home on Friday. I still need to come up with some fun things to do with my friends this weekend. Maybe a Braves game? Maybe shopping or the World of Coke? We'll see! And if any of my Atlanta friends are reading, suggestions are welcome!

Good Afternoon
Hello dear friends! I don't have much exciting to report on today except for a couple of little items:
1. Kristin is finally here! She arrived last night and is currently hanging out by herself in my apartment. I feel terrible that I couldn't take the week off to hang out with her, but I'll be there Friday! And I might even sneak out early this afternoon...we shall see. At least she's hopefully enjoying my apartment's pool while I'm slaving away.
2. Had lunch today in the "executive dining room" at work. I didn't even know an executive dining room existed. Very delicious and very fancy. You learn something new every day, right?
3. I'm having dinner with my friend Kate tonight. She is a good friend to me here, but soon she'll be moving to Jackson, MS for work :( I'll definitely miss her, but am happy to see her a few more times before she leaves.
4. K and I have decided to have a week of adventures in cooking. I'm sure I'll report back with whatever findings we have--good or bad. Neither of us knows how to do much of anything except pan-frying. And I'm deathly afraid of cooking meat, in fear that I might inadvertantly poison myself. Any tips would be appreciated!

Reunited, and it feels so good...
Ok, maybe not quite yet, but in just a few hours Kristin will be here! And she'll be here for the entire week!! For those of you who don't live alone, you can't fully appreciate the knowledge of having someone to hang out with and talk to any time I want for a whole week! Aside from the fact that I have missed Kristin ridiculously and we don't get to see each other nearly enough since she graduated, I'm just happy to have company in general:)
I had a pretty good weekend overall. Thursday, after getting back early from Alabama, I had dinner downtown (delicious Italian food...Azio's, I believe) with the lovely Kathryn from Wake. She was in town for a couple of days for work, and it was wonderful to see her and catch up on Calloway gossip for the past year. As always, its nice to have some Wake Forest time in Atlanta...doesn't always happen often enough.
Friday, I left the house only twice: once in the morning to go to McDonald's for hotcakes (I watched an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch where she was addicted to pancakes, and I was hooked), and again in the evening for my friend Acree's house-warming party. Otherwise I was a complete waste of space. Acree's party was so great. It was nice to see her new townhouse and meet her fun friends, but mostly it was just nice to see her. I have known her since we were 5 years old, and there is really no replacement for an old friend. We haven't kept up well in the past few years, but I still feel like I know her so well and am so comfortable talking to her about anything. We had a nice long chat in the wee hours of the morning, and I'm just so happy to have her here and know that she's there when I need an old friend!
Saturday was an equally lazy day spent mostly watching What Not To Wear and Say Yes To the Dress all afternoon. Saturday night I met up with a couple of my Marietta friends, had dinner and watched Rachel Getting Married and drank lots of yummy wine. The movie was pretty good, just totally not what I expected from Anne Hathaway. She's obviously very talented, but I wasn't really prepared for something so dark/dramatic. I wanted a pretty princessy movie like her usual!
Sunday I finally decided to be productive, so I got up and drove up to Marietta again to go to Bojangles and Walmart for lots of groceries. I stocked up on lots of good stuff, came home to unpack it all, went to Lenox for a new watch battery (and did some spur of the moment clothes shopping at Urban Outfitters while I was there...oops) and went to my massage appointment. I had a new masseuse yesterday and he was amazing. My back is ridiculously sore today, but thats exactly what I needed. Maybe a soak in the tube tonight will be a good thing:) I also made a trip to Bed Bath & Beyond, finally went back home to put away laundry from Friday (oops again) and went over to Claire's for dinner. On my way home, Atlanta experienced Noah's Flood, Part 2. I have never in my life driven in such rain. And apparently the city has horrible drainage, because there were times when so much water was on the road and falling from the sky that I literally couldn't see out my windshield. I love rainstorms, but I don't like driving in them. It did make for nice background noise last night, though.
Tonight I need to pay a few bills, run a few errands and tidy up a little before my lovely guest arrives. I've been having a little bit of a rough day and had a couple not-so-fun moments over the weekend, which makes her arrival even better. Its frustrating, because I thought I'd been doing so well. Granted, this was my first extra-long weekend by myself with no real plans in more than a month, so I knew it would be interesting to see how it went. Not as well as I might have hoped, but I made it and that's the important part.
Hmm, I didn't realize this post was going to be such a novel. Oh, well. For now I'm back to work and can't wait to see K tonight. I hope you all had fabulous weekends too!

Friends
I apologize for the lack of blogging this week, but its been a pretty busy week out of the office. The good news is that we got lots of things done in just a few days, and i'm excited to be Atlanta-bound this afternoon. I can't wait to see my meat-n-eat group tonight. We're meeting at a cute place on the Marietta Square where the girls took me one night about a month ago. Its been ages since I spent any time with the girls--I hope we have lots of time to hang out this weekend before my marathon month-o-travel. I definitely want to get to see my friend Kate too, because she's moving back to Mississippi soon and I'll miss her once she leaves!
Right now I'm mostly excited for these reasons:

Right now I'm mostly excited for these reasons:
1. Kristin will be here in 4 days!! I am thrilled to see her. Although we talk on almost a daily basis, I haven't seen her since our New Orleans trip back in February. She is the best friend I could ask for, and she has been so wonderful to listen to me complain/be sad/be crazy on the phone in these last couple of months. I wish Monday night would hurry up and get here already!

2. Sarina will be here next weekend! Another one of my closest friends on the world, I am so lucky to have her. She is another person who's nice enough to put up with my insanity on the phone. I haven't seen Sarina since last fall at Wake homecoming...way too long ago.

3. Washington DC reunion with Ash, Katie, Kristin, Sarina and Emily in less than a month! This makes me unbelievably happy on so many levels. I can't even think about it right now, because I'll just want to speed up time and get to DC already!

I'm so thankful for my summer of reunions. My friends from Wake are some of my dearest friends in the world. They probably know me better than anyone else, and I feel like I can share anything with them. They have been so wonderful to me in the past couple of months when I've had lots of craziness going on and needed my best friends to get me through...and that's saying a lot considering they are all hundreds of miles away from me. I love them so much and can't wait to see them and hang out with them and just have fun. I don't say it enough, but I'm such a lucky girl. I have more wonderful friends in my life than anyone could ask for, and it seems like I keep making new ones in Georgia all the time. Hooray!

Greetings from Bama
Hello from the deep south, lovely readers. I hope you all had the best 4th of July weekend! I had a wonderful time in NC with my wonderful friends and family.
Friday I finally got my haircut--3 inches off and lots of layers, and no one can tell a difference except for me! Oh, well. Friday night I also went to the fireworks & beach music show in WF with Mom and Erin. So much fun! I didn't realize that beach music was such a Carolina thing until I got to Georgia, and people just don't do beach music here. Sigh. It was great to enjoy the gorgeous weather and watch people shag dancing all night! Plus, I even got a little tan laying out at the pool in the afternoon--no burn!
Saturday was also spent by the pool with Be (still no burn--hooray!), and I finally got to spend a lovely evening with Matthew! He is one of my favorite people in the entire world. Being the un-festive people that we are, we spent our 4th of July eating French food at North Hills (yum) and seeing the Hangover (hilarious, and very realistic...it kind of made me want to go to Vegas). He is just fabulous, and I can't wait until we go see Britney together! He's the best concert-going partner ever.
Sunday I was sad to say goodbye to the Old North State, I realized that I won't be able to go back for pretty much the rest of the summer..sad. I really do love going home. Seeing everyone there always makes me feel more alive and better about life in general. But alas, i'll be traveling so much in the next few weeks, I probably won't even miss it. This weekend will be the first in a month where I will be in Atlanta with no one visiting and no real plans yet. I can't wait to spend some quality time in my apartment, by the pool, and catching up with all the friends I haven't seen lately. I'm even going to try to fit in a massage appointment and a trip to Bojangles. Can't wait!
For now, I'm working in Alabama all week. I suppose that calls for me to say "Roll Tide!" or something like that, but frankly, I don't really know what that means:) I'm just enjoying small town life that reminds me of home for a few days. And hopefully we'll finish up early and get to leave on Thursday--fingers crossed. My out-to-dinner club is meeting Thursday night and I obviously don't want to miss out!
Only one week from today, Kristin will be in the South again! I can't wait to see her and have my bff to hang out with for a whole week. Too bad work gets in the way...oh well.

Happy Holiday!
I can't believe its Thursday already. It's been a busy week at work and at home in the evenings, since I wasn't here last weekend to do all of the little things that seem to pile up. Same story this weekend! It's kind of strange, but very nice to be in NC two weekends in a row. I can't wait to see my friends and fam, see some fireworks, eat lots of delicious food, etc. Should be a fabulous weekend at home. Hopefully lots of fun plans on Friday and Saturday with Em, Be, and most importantly Matthew! Can't wait.
And then I get to come back here Sunday afternoon, just to turn around and pack again to go to Alabama on Monday. Should be a thrill. Thus begins the super busy but hopefully fun-packed second half of my summer.
Other good news: I've been meeting lots of fabulous (young) people at work. I didn't really think there were any more under-30s out there, but it turns out I was wrong. I met a really cool new girl (who happens to live across the street and is in need of a roommate in the fall...hmm), had lunch with a friend from HR I rarely see, and met a few cute new guys:) AND to top it all off, one of my dear old friends from Raleigh (who I went to school K-12 with) has just moved back to Atlanta. Can't wait to see her and meet her friends here hopefully very soon! Definitely lots to be excited about!
Oh, and really to top it all off, I got a raise at work! How thrilling. Such a good week:)
Have a lovely 4th of July weekend everyone! I'll post whenever I get a chance since I'll be on the road next week. xoxo.
PS. I finally bought the Lady Gaga cd and it's pretty fantastic (and totally uncharacteristic).

Funny for the day:)
Read this little news story. I bet none of you had something so exciting happen to you today! I know I didn't.
Happy Hump Day
Average Wednesday..nothing terribly exciting to share, except for these few tidbits:
-i've decided to go on a clothes-shopping hiatus this summer. for real. i have more clothes than any human being would ever need, and i'd love to save money for the elusive condo fund in the process.
-antique's roadshow had a million dollar item last weekend at the Raleigh taping! i wish i had been there!
-i'll be back in Raleigh tomorrow night, yay!
-had one of the best blueberry muffins of all time this morning. maybe blueberry is the new bran?
-made brats on my GF grill last night!
-tonight i must: pack, Target, Post Office, pay bills, clean (slightly) & sit by the pool to relax and paint my nails.
