Oh, to be back in London..
I would do just about anything to be able to visit this exhibit. Once in my life, I hope to go to London in the middle of the summer to be able to go on the Buckingham Palace tour! One day.
Speaking of London, the trip was fantastic. More than fantastic...we had such a good time. I would go back right now if possible. There's so much that we did and saw and ate, so I won't bore you with tens of pages of my ramblings, but here is a short list of some of the things we did on vacation:
Sunday--Arrived in London, found the hotel (right across from Hyde Park), wandered through the park looking at Kensington Palace, the Diana fountain and the Peter Pan statue. Went to bed insanely early.
Monday--St. Paul's Cathedral, Buckingham Palace/Changing of the Guard, Queen's Gallery, purchased copious amounts of Royal Wedding merchandise, saw Billy Elliot in London's West End.
Tuesday--Tried to go to Westminster Abbey, but the Obamas were there and it was closed for the day, went to the Churchill Museum and War Rooms instead (amazing), rode the London Eye, saw Mousetrap (the longest running play ever), ate at the original Hard Rock Cafe, purchased many more Royal Wedding merchandise.
Wednesday--Double Decker Bus tour, river cruise of the Thames, Westminster Abbey, Parliament, Harrods. Again with the Royal merch.
Thursday--Day trip to Windsor, Stonehenge and Bath. So much fun.
Friday--British Museum, National Gallery of Art, Selfridges shopping, Wicked!
I'm sure there's more I can't remember right now, but we did so much! Fabulous trip. Pictures still need to be posted, but I promise to put a best-of on the blog very soon!
What have you all been up to? I'm still playing catch up after being gone!

Hello from back in the real world...
Coming back to work after vacation is always tough, right? Sigh. I wish I was still at the beach. From Friday to yesterday I was loving life in Jekyll Island, GA--a really lovely place that I highly recommend. After last year's memorial day trip to Tybee Island, I was sort of over Georgia beaches. I will forever think NC beaches are the best (because they obviously are), but Tybee was just sort of trashy and not that fun. Jekyll was about 100 times better though-yay! The sand was nice, the tiki bar was fabulous, and the place was practically deserted for being a holiday weekend. Jekyll is one of the few truly natural beaches left (that I have been too), and it was incredibly relaxing to be forced to just do nothing. (But thankfully if you get the shopping and/or sightseeing urge, St. Simon's is a short car ride away!). Please enjoy a few photos from my relaxation weekend. And I hope you all had a fabulous Memorial Day as well!

Out of the office
Good afternoon, dear friends!
I can't believe it--my beach trip is finally upon us! I feel as though I've been counting down for ages and ages. I just have to make it through another hour or two, and then I'm home free for 5 straight days. Hooray!
I hope you all have a fun filled holiday weekend! Enjoy yourselves & I'll see you back here next week! xoxo
And in the mean time, enjoy some photos of a variety of summer fun activities:

Pollen, California & spring in the South
This week has been the perfect example of spring in the south. The week started out as hot as Hades. Seriously, it should not be 90 degrees during the 1st week of April. But, such is life. Today it was a mere 50 degrees when I walked out of my apartment to work. WOW it felt cold. Especially since I've been sweating to death first thing in the morning for the past few days. Thankfully, we had a little rain yesterday to help wash away some of the outrageous pollen thats been piling up all week. Yay! So now I'm looking forward to an honest-to-goodness spring-like weekend of 70 degree weather, sunshine, eating outside, sandals and shorts!
The week has been a busy one, but also a slow one too. I guess that's what I get for being out of the office living the fabulous California life for two weeks straight. And believe me, it was fabulous. Here is a little recap for you all:
My first week in San Francisco was lovely. I was by myself there for work related training. I had a glorious time! I met some great people in my class, and luckily had some free time to explore beautiful San Fran. I bought pretty jewelry at a street fair, went to a specialty cheese shop one night (and only had cheese for dinner..yum!), explored Fisherman's Wharf, ate amazing seafood at a restaurant overlooking the bay, toured Alcatraz (scary, but amazing views!), rode a cable car up the very, very steep hills, and even drove across the Golden Gate Bridge! It was a great week overall, and I feel lucky that I got to really take full advantage and see lots of things around the city.
For the second week, my parents flew out to meet me and we spent the week driving down the Pacific Coast Highway from San Fran to L.A., and stopping at all the fabulous little spots along the way. LOVED the drive down the coast. The road is literally on the side of mountain cliffs that drop right off into the ocean for a lot of the way down, and the views are spectacular. Northern California is a truly gorgeous place, and I highly reccommend it to anyone who gets the chance to go! As we made our way down, we stopped in Monterrey, Santa Cruz and few other surf spots. We spent a night in Santa Barbara, and then made our way to Hollywood. I really enjoyed Hollywood. We stayed in a hotel right off Hollywood Blvd, and of course we saw the handprints outside the Chinese Theater, the Kodak Theater where they host the Oscars, and all the stars lining the sidewalks. We saw the Hollywood sign, we went to Beverly Hills (heavenly!), I shopping on Rodeo Dr. (dream come true!), drove around looking at big, beautiful (and i'm sure celebrity-owned) homes. We did a tour of Sony Pictures Studios which was a lot of fun. I even had my celebrity spotting there--Jason Biggs from American Pie walked right by! Of course we also visited a couple of presidential museums and also the Getty Center while we were there. Lots of stuff packed in, but we had a great trip!
It was so nice to be back home last weekend and hang out with John. We went to the Dixieland Funpark in Fayetteville, GA. I'd reccommend this place to anyone who is a fan of mini-golf, crappy rides and 90s arcade games. We actually had a lot of fun there! We also made an Easter meal together on Sunday since we were both Easter orphans, and it turned out really well.
Hopefully this weekend will be just as relaxing and fun. I'm hoping to do a little shopping, maybe see a friend or two, and hopefully go to Park Tavern at Piedmont Park at some point. I'm just glad its Friday :)

I'm back!
Yes, I have finally returned from the west coast, where I was for the past two weeks. I had a FABULOUS time. Really and truly loved it (except maybe for LA proper..but I still enjoyed Hollywood). I've been pretty busy at work today, so I'm hoping I'll have time for a full recap tomorrow. I know, you're left in suspense. But I'll give you a little teaser of pictures to tide you over :) I hope all of my blog friends have been doing great over the past couple of weeks. I've missed reading what you have all been up to, and I look forward to catching up this week! Enjoy!

California!*
Note: Please imagine the title of this blog as sung in the theme song to the O.C. "Callifoooorniaaaaaaaa".
I've had a pretty good week here in the office. Its actually seemed kind of long, even though I haven't been nearly as busy as in the past few weeks. Maybe I just got used to the time flying by! But alas, its already Thursday and tomorrow is my day off (except for a conference call which I will be attending from home...I love technology). Hooray! Plus, today is practically a national holiday for those of us who love basketball, so I'm thrilled that March Madness has finally started! I'm especially glad that I got to sneak out to a nice sports bar for lunch and see some games begin. Let's just hope my bracket doesn't totally fail me, especially since I actually put money on it this year. We'll see.
On to other excitement in my life: California! I'm super excited for my first trip to the lovely west coast (if you don't count Canada or Alaska). I'm pretty thrilled about the trip for a variety of reasons, first of which is that work is funding the plane ticket. Yay! Yes, I will be spending the first 5 days there in the office, but its still pretty awesome. That leaves me with Sunday afternoon and every evening to explore on my own and meet new coworkers from across the county. Oh, and shop. Duh. Then my parents are flying out to meet me, and we'll be driving down the Pacific Coast Highway to L.A. I. Can't. Wait.
But before I fly away on Sunday, I need some reader advice. What kind of outfits should I take? Its going to be anywhere from 60s to 80 in L.A., so I'm thinking plenty of layers. Maybe some cute jersey dresses with cardigans, a couple of pairs of jeans with cute fashionista-type tops? I just don't know. And of course, I always have the issue of a "good walking shoe". Rainbows, definitely. My J. Crew leather driving shoes, maybe. I think I'm doomed to a lifelong hunt for a truly great walking shoe besides Uggs and Rainbows. But I guess for now, I'll stick with what I know and not go out on a limb with weird vacation shoes. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
I'm really looking forward to seeing some sights:

Flowers are blooming!
Yes, you heard right.I've been seeing beautiful red bud trees and cherry blossoms and daffodils for about a week now. Hooray, I love spring! Unfortunately this weekend was not very spring-like. It was gray and dreary and a little cold. I actually love this weather usually, but I was really looking forward to some warmth and a little outside time. Oh, well. Hopefully there will be lovely weather next weekend!
Last week was full of work, and it was a 5 day week! Phew, i'm glad I made it. I'm not used to being at work for an entire week :) The weekend was really nice, though. John met me lunch at the Vortex on Friday while I was at work, and we only got mildly drenched from the rain on the way back. Friday night I lounged at home and enjoyed some rainy weather downtime. Saturday I had a great massage, then went down to John's house where we contemplated bowling, but decided we would rather go show shopping instead (his idea, not mine, but of course I wouldn't turn it down!). We ate some crappy BBQ (I have yet to go to an actual good BBQ restaurant since I moved to GA), and watched a movie on the couch. Sunday we went out for brunch (4 course brunch at Ruby Tuesday, very tasty!) and were lazy again. I hope next weekend we can use our tennis rackets when he comes over to my place.
I'm also incredibly excited because in a mere 6 days from now, I will be in sunny California! YAY! I am so thrilled I cannot even desribe it to you. I need to start planning some outfits and researching a few restaurants. If any of you has been to San Francisco or LA, send ideas my way! Let the countdown begin!
I hope everyone is having a lovely Monday, and survived daylight savings time (I detest springing forward...where did my hour of sleep go??). xoxo

Pretty Pictures
Back in the office for one whole day this week! I'm feeling really productive too--getting lots of things done and there's not really any time to be bored, which is very nice. I'm still missing vacation like crazy. I wish I was lounging by a pool somewhere or overlooking the ocean. But thank goodness for the long weekend in NOLA--I honestly feel much better about life and totally recharged. Hopefully the vacay high will last for a while:)
No real weekend plans yet. Tomorrow is my Friday off, so I'm free for 3 days starting at 5:30pm! I have a date with A tonight, and I'm sure i'll see him again at some point this weekend. I've challenged him to a Price is Right Wii game tournament, and I definitely intend to win. Maybe I can convince him to make beignets with the mix I brought back from New Orleans! I also just found out that I get to go to the ACC tournament next Friday. Yippeee! I am so excited--its been way too long for this NC girl to go without a college basketball game in person.
Some faves from the weekend:
Bourbon St by night
Me and the Real World New Orleans house!
Beautiful Jackson Square.

real life
The past week has been a complete blur. First, leaving for New Orleans last Thursday seems like yesterday and a lifetime ago, all at the same time. I got back to ATL on Sunday morning--just in time for snow!--, only to leave my apartment again Monday morning. Now, here I sit in Calera, Alabama. I love being such a jet setter:)
New Orleans was fantastic. It took Kristin and I a little while to get used to the fact that we were actually on vacation by ourselves. No parents to schedule us or tell us what to do. This fact was lovely. We ate lots of delicious food including, but not limited to: mufalettas, beginets (lots), chicory cafe au lait, fried crawfish pies, gumbo and fried alligator. YUM. We also drank lots of drinks, including hurricanes, hand grenades, brandy milk punch, and mint juleps. Also note that all cocktails in New Orleans can be ordered TO GO! Needless to say, I'm still full 2 days later:)
We also did plenty of sight seeing. We walked the French Quarter over and over, rode the St Charles Ave streetcar through the Garden District multiple times, collected Mardi Gras beads still left in the trees and on the streets, walked along the river, did some shopping, had our palms read (very accurate!) and even had an afternoon in the hot tub, because it was 80 degrees most of the time we were there. Unbelievably great. It was so nice to get away and go to such a wonderful place for a few days. And it was soo good to hang out with Kristin in person, and not just on the phone, as usual. I miss her already (and am not so secretly jealous that she is still stuck in NOLA because of all the crazy blizzards). Good times.
Sunday I managed to get myself back to Atlanta just in time for the snow to hit as I was landing at the airport. Atlanta in the snow is GORGEOUS. I was getting to the point where I didn't expect to see any beautiful snow this year, but leave it to March to surprise me with almost 4 inches! Needless to say, I was not appropriately dressed for this when I got off the plane, but I didn't freeze too badly and didn't slip on the way home! Sunday afternoon I unpacked, repacked, did laundry, baked a cake, and was overall just very domestic. I also made SNOW CREAM! I was thrilled. The snow fell for most of the day and it was wonderful. Sunday evening I went over to A's house where we ate fried chicken and cake on the couch and watched bad tv until midnight. I had lots of fun:)
Monday morning finally rolled around, and I should have just never gotten out of bed. Not only did I not get enough sleep, but I had to finish packing for Alabama and I couldn't phsyically force myself out of bed. I realized that I accidentally washed my MARTA card in my snowy jeans the day before, so I had to pay for a ticket at the station. Grr. Halfway to work on the train, I realized that I had left my badge at home, and had to get off, wait for the train going back north, drag my luggage all the way back home, and turn right back around to buy another ticket to finally get to the office. Double grr. Only once I got to my desk did I realize that my water bottle had spilled half its contents into the bottom of my purse and everything was soaking wet. TRIPLE GRR. So, not only was I late, but then I had to dry out everything in my bag. Thank goodness I was still on a vacation high, because I stayed in a surprisingly good mood throughout all this. Sigh. I finally made it to Alabama yesterday, and things have improved since then! The hotel is nice and the work is going well. Plus, I got to eat at Cracker Barrel for lunch and I'vealready heard the song "Sweet Home Alabama" three times since I entered the state. This makes me happy.
Hope you all had a great weekend! Pictures to come soon!

Happy days
Last day of the work week for me! Tomorrow morning (too bright and early) I will be on a plane to New Orleans and Kristin! Definitely could not be more excited. Ok, maybe I could be more excited if I had gotten slightly more sleep last night...i'm really unsure how I feel about dating interfering with my week night sleep schedule. Trivia was really fun, although we were robbed and did not win, and we sat around talking for a long time afterwards which was great. But me in bed anytime after midnight on a weeknight is BAD news. I had to drink black coffee this morning just to function. Tonight my bedtime will be approx 9:00 pm, and I'm pretty thrilled about it.
Still need to pack, clean my apartment, take out my trash, pay some bills and many other mundane things I hate doing during the week. This never-in-Atlanta situation is a little rough, but at least I'll have most of Sunday to wrap things up before I head to the big city of Calera, Alabama next week for work!

2 days until fun!
Currently: reading God Save the Sweet Potato Queens, eating a tart apple and drooling over the brunch menu at Brennan's in New Orleans. I'm thinking the gumbo/eggs benedict/bananas foster combo sounds pretty perfect. And the "brandy milk punch" sounds very interesting indeed. I cannot physically wait until Thursday. This will be my first real grown up vacation--paid for by myself, no parents, staying in a real hotel instead of whatever crappy place a college student can afford. I love being financially independent!
A few things I hope Kristin and I can do while we are there:
1. Bourbon street..enough said.
2. Eating at Brennan's, obviously.
3. Jackson Square.
4. Cafe du Monde and the French Quarter Market.
5. Voodoo/scary ghost tour.
6. Garden District.
YAY!
Tonight is pop culture trivia at my new favorite sports bar near my place. Any place that does trivia twice a week--especially pop culture trivia--is my kind of place! I just wish Matthew was here to enjoy it with me. No one would stand a chance with both of us on the same team:) I'm just glad I finally found a trivia partner in GA!

Sigh of relief
After many, many hours of thinking, deliberating and agonizing over my life situation of last week, everything is finally out in the open and I can breathe easy again! Yay! I'm not used to having so much (if any at all) drama in my life, so I'm glad that I don't have to constantly think about it anymore and berate all my friends for their opinions on every aspect. All the advice was very much appreciated though:)
Raleigh was great. I got home safely Thursday night, slept in my own bed and got to see my kitty! Friday I went shoe shopping and was apparently feeling pretty gangsta because I bought not one, but two pairs of shiny gold metallic shoes. One pair of awesome Coach tennis shoes and one pair of Jack Rogers. Its love. I had lunch with Be and dinner with my parents and grandparents at the Angus Barn. As much as I love that place, I just physically cannot eat that much meat on a regular basis. I'm pretty much done with meat for the rest of this week, if not next week too! But, my prime rib was pretty awesome:) Saturday, Sara and I ate Boajngles on her living room floor and played wii games until we were sore (wii boxing is intense physical activity), I saw Erin at Cameron Village and had dinner with the entire fam again that night. My mom made a very delicious chocolate cake too:) Sunday, I attempted to fill out my taxes which was a total waste of time, and otherwise lazed around the house until the parents took me back to the airport. I feel bad that I didn't spend more time with them--or maybe just the fact that the time I did spend with them was consumed with me thinking of other things. Oh, well. As soon as I got home last night, I went over to A's house where he made me a very fancy schmancy dinner and we watched Wake lose to Duke. I really like spending my Sundays with him.
And, here I am back at the office and so tired that I'm drinking black Starbucks coffee. The one downside of having a social life: I definitely don't get my 9 hours of sleep every night. I think I can deal with it though:) The absolute best part of this week: in 3 days I'll be in New Orleans with Kristin!!! Excited beyond belief.
Fresh Face
So, I decided once again to change the blog around. I thought it would be a good idea if I took my own advice and lightened up a little. At least now I get to see the ocean every day:)
A friend of a friend from Wake invited me to join a big group of people for dinner next Friday night. They have a little supper club where they invite new people, try different restuarants around town, etc. I haven't met anyone who will actually be there, but I'm definitely going. Its all about stepping out of the comfort zone! I think its funny that all of these things seem to be falling into my lap once I made the conscious decision to put myself out there. Coincidence? I think not.
Nothing else to speak of today. Wake plays Duke tonight in basketball--GO DEACS! And I am so looking forward to New Orleans in a month with K. I like to always have something worthwhile on the horizon, and I think this trip will be a perfect mid-winter pick me up for both of us!

lovely friday
My week of vacation is officially over today--boo. Its amazing how much faster the days go by when I'm not doing much of anything and not sitting in an office. Although, I am pretty excited about starting my new job on Monday! I will definitely miss the getting up whenever I want and going wherever I want. Sigh.
I've got a couple of errands to run today--opening a new bank account at my new bank(!), and tonight i'm going out in downtown Raleigh for margaritas with my other Brittany. I'll probably spend the night downtown with her too--yay! I haven't been "out" in a looong time, so i'm looking forward to it. I baked some really delicious banana bread this morning, curtesy of Paula Deen, and she didn't let me down. It was fabulous. Hopefully i'll also get to vote early this weekend yay!
I had a major shopping trip on Monday, which included buying this dress from Forever 21. Its very unlike me to buy anything thats not a solid--or bascially anything exciting at all while shopping alone, haha. But I think I made a good choice. Mine is green instead of pink, with smaller flowers and little black and gold striping around the side.

very good days
Yesterday I found out that I get to go to Atlanta week after next for an in person interview after 2 rounds of phone interviews! Yay! I never expected to make it even to the second round, so I'm pretty thrilled that they called and I made it to the final round of interviews. The prospect of moving to Atlanta and doing all of the travel that the job would require scares me a little bit, but it would be an amazing opportunity. Other good things: my current food coma after the pot luck lunch at my office, Britney Spears is going on tour again next year!, my interview this afternoon and, of course, the fair is on Friday (i'm obsessed).

Not so good things: said goodbye to Julie yesterday for the next two years. It wasn't as emotional as I expected--mostly because I wouldn't let myself get ridiculous, but its still sad and exciting at the same time. I'm very proud of her. Also, the fact that I have to spend the next hour or so at work studying finance and the economy for my interview this afternoon. Boo. And, i've heard at least 4 Obama radio commercials today already. I will be so thrilled when this election is finally over. I think i'm going to vote early this weekend!

the blog is back!
I'm finally back from my fabulous vacation, so I thought i'd update all of my very eager and numerous (hah) readers about my life for the past 10 or so days!
Friday night before I left I had a great birthday dinner with friends from Wake and from Raleigh. We had a nice time even though the band was cancelled, and its always good to see friends--we need to start doing it more often. Saturday morning we got up early and hit the road for New Jersey (eww). We made a couple of stops along the way and finally got to the hotel about 45 mins from NYC around early evening. The next morning, we got up and drove into the city. It didn't take very long, and I actually managed to get my family to Central Park and Times Square without using the GPS! I didn't know I had that much directional knowledge in me (and I know Kristin will be proud)! We finally parked at the pier, got on the ship and immedaitely began eating (the overall theme of the week). Sunday night and Monday were at sea, so we mostly just continued eating, went to the casino a little, played trivia and shopped on board the ship. Luckily we managed to completely avoid the hurricane. The radar looked like it was going to hit us really hard (first hurricane in the Maine/Canada region in 17 years...what are the odds?), but I guess there wasn't enough warm water to sustain it, and we really didn't have any bad weather at all thank goodness!
Tuesday we docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and walked around the town for the morning. We went to the Titanic museum there and saw lots of cool things from the ship and other shipwrecks. Halifax was a much bigger city than I expected. Lots of big downtown buildings and pretty waterfront condos. We did a little shopping and then went back to the ship, of course, to eat. Wednesday we went to St. John, New Brunswick in Canada. This was a more typical coastal Canada town. Lots of ship building and pretty gingerbread style houses in different colors. We took a tour bus around town and to the Bay of Fundy--a place where two waters (the north Atlantic and something else) meet, and the water actually changes directions right there. That was pretty interesting, and the town was really pretty. Almost enough to want to live there, if there wasn't 10 ft of snow in the winter:)
Thursday we got back to the US and went into Boston for the day. I sadly didn't get a chance to meet up with Em because of having to go through customs on the ship that morning, but she did give me excellent T directions to the JFK museum. We spent most of the morning at the beautiful museum by the harbor. Then we went back into the city and toured around the Freedom Trail and other places in downtown Boston. Friday morning we got to Martha's Vineyard a little late. The water isn't deep enough there for the ship to dock right by the shore, so we had to take smaller tender boats to land. This was probably the most eventful part of the trip--the water was so choppy that the waves actually went all the way over the top of the little enclosed boat! Thank goodness I didn't get seasick! We finally made it to shore, and took a bus tour of the island. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but Martha's Vineyard was not exactly what I had pictured. It actually reminded me a lot of Beaufort near the good old Emerald Isle, NC. It was nice, and I enjoyed walking around the little shops by the harbor to see the beautiful sailboats, but I guess its the type of place you have to grow up around to really appreciate it enough to pay millions for real estate there. It definitely seemed more like a status thing (obviously) than the fact that the island was just so spectacular. But it was nice and I enjoyed the day there. I enjoyed it even more once we finally got back to the ship on a bigger ferry boat (the wind was up to 50 knots so that small boats were'nt even allowed out by the afternoon eek!). Saturday we docked back in NYC and finally made it back home to NC by 7ish that night.
Overall the week was fantastic. I really enjoyed getting away for a little while, not hearing about the election and turning my cell phone off for a few days. I would have liked a couple more days of sleep, but alas:) I'm unfortunately a little sick right now--my sinuses started going crazy by the end of the trip, but hopefully i'll be back to normal soon. I've got an interview in person for the job I reeeeally want this afternoon(!), so let's hope I don't sneeze all over the person--and wish me luck!
Other news on the job front: I ended up accepting an offer from the crappy job I wrote about a few weeks ago. It really pained me to do it, but I bascially thinking of it as another temporary job, and will definitely keep looking in the meantime. Hopefully something will happen--fingers crossed--before I have to start there in a couple weeks, and I can quit before I even start haha! I just felt like I couldn't turn it down with the way the financial market it right now. I've got the interview today, and then another really great 2nd round phone interview for a job in Atlanta on Wednesday. I could use all the luck I can get! Whew, long post...hopefully i'll get a few pictures up soon!

Vacation has arrived!!
Alas, its finally my last day at the office before I leave for a week's vacation! I'm leaving around noon today, going to get my haircut, home to pack, then out with my friends for belated bday celebration tonight! Lots of excitement--if only the Breakfast Club show hadn't been canceled because of the crazy weather we've been having. Oh well. Tomorrow morning my parents and I are leaving for a cruise to New England. The ship leaves from NYC (sadly not enough time to go up early and see Kristin..boo) on Sunday, and then we'll cruise to 2 cities in Canada on the coast, then back down to Martha's Vineyard and Boston before docking back in NY next Saturday. I'm SO excited to have a week off from work. I've secretly been hoping all summer that I wouldn't find a job before now so I wouldn't have to worry about someone taking my vacation away--thank goodness that didn't happen. So i'm going to enjoy it as much as possible, because I probably won't have another solid week off for a long while. So I hope you have a fabulous week without me, while the blog takes a few days off too! Bon Voyage!
